Despite 781 teams entering the competition, the final of the FFA Cup will come down to the same sides that battled it out for the right to hold the silverware aloft some twelve months ago.

Sydney FC reigned supreme on that night after an absorbing battle that required extra time to split the two teams. Adelaide will be seeking revenge in their third cup final, after holding the trophy aloft after the inaugural event in 2014.

The Reds enter the match with solid form over the first fortnight of the A-League domestic competition, yet certainly have a vast amount of improvement in them.

With Nikola Mileusnic back from injury, there should be a little more zip in the Adelaide attack. Although the loss of George Blackwood with a shoulder injury is a blow after the young striker made a difference when he entered the match in Round 2 of the A-League.

Captain Isaias will be craving the chance for another piece of silverware with his beloved Adelaide. He already has an FFA Cup and an A-League championship on his resume and this would cement his place as a legend of Australian football.

Whilst Marco Kurz will hope to drive the Reds to a glorious victory after a few lean years for the club, Sydney FC manager Steve Corica will be looking to take back-to-back cups and continue the consistent winning of silverware that the harbour city juggernaut has been able to achieve in recent seasons.

Daniel De Silva looks set to make a much-needed return to the starting eleven, after marquee man Siem de Jong went down with a minor hamstring injury on the weekend.

Adam le Fondre has made a dynamic start to his A-League career with consecutive goals in the league. After a few clunky pre-season and FFA Cup matches, Sydney will be confident after finally showing some better form against the Wanderers in the Sydney derby on Saturday.

As usual, there will be little in the game; cup finals are always tense and gripping. Victory will come on the back of the little moments, a bounce of the ball or an opportunity taken or missed.

Prediction
Adelaide have the home ground advantage in what should be a rumbling Cooper’s Stadium with something near a capacity crowd.

Sydney have the slightly better form and probably a more settled and dangerous attack. It is a line ball call and extra time is once again a real possibility.

Sydney might just have the edge in experience and should shade the Reds in another epic cup final.

Adelaide United 1-2 Sydney FC
