Prior to a 0-0 draw with Wellington on Saturday, the Roar were on a three-match winning streak. Victories over Macarthur FC, the Wanderers and the Mariners – the latter a 4-0 thrashing – has seen Warren Moon’s men reach the cusp of the top six.
Indeed, the Roar’s last defeat was to Western United themselves nearly two months ago. With the A-League’s most miserly defence, having conceded just 17 goals for the season, the visitors will need to make the most of every opportunity.
United, too, are in form, having been bested just once in their last seven matches. Sitting sixth with two extra games on both fifth-placed Macarthur FC and the Wanderers in seventh, victory here would leave Mark Rudan’s team entrenched in the top six. But with the Roar breathing down their necks, defeat would see them slide to seventh themselves.
