Brisbane Roar are still in search of their first win of the new season when they host Melbourne City. Join The Roar for live scores from the match and a blog of the game on Saturday night at Suncorp Stadium in Round 5 of the 2018-19 A-League season, starting from 7:50pm AEDT.

The Roar are off to something of a slow start in the new season having only three draws and a loss to their name so far, and sitting second from last on the table.

They opened their season with draws against the Central Coast Mariners and Wellington Phoenix before a 1-2 loss to league leaders Perth Glory, then another draw – 2-2 against the Western Sydney Wanderers – last week.

The game against the Wanderers was a sign of increased scoring power after fall behind early.

Even if it didn’t result in a win, the Roar will be hoping it’s the beginning of finding a good groove of form.

Melbourne City on the other hand famously started the season with a 2-1 win in the derby over Melbourne Victory, this was followed by a draw with the Mariners and an 0-3 loss to Sydney FC.

City got things back on track a 2-0 win over the Wellington Phoenix last week.

Prediction
It’s hard to argue that City have been in superior form and with Bruno Fornaroli getting into good touch last week, they look dangerous.

Melbourne City 2-1

Scott - Thoughts on the match? With Roar's attendance figures showing an alarming drop over 3 games this victory was much needed if public interest is to be maintained or increased. The game itself was nothing to write home about, the opposition were showy, but extremely ineffective, with Young almost a spectator in the second half. Taggart's 2 goals were worthy of any game but the lad himself stated in a post game interview that he was not happy with his overall display as he could have had 4 goals in the first half. As long as the lad thinks that way he can only improve on the figures he has attained. Defensively Roar did appear a bit more secure but whether that was due to the opposition's obvious "personnel problems" we'll never know, suffice to say you can only play what's in front of you and Roar did this better than City. Cheers jb

FULLTIME The Brisbane Roar have their first victory of the season at home against City, who will be extremely disappointed with what they have dished up this evening without Bruno Fornaroli. Solid effort from John Aloisi's side. They overcame the early storm with City dominating the first part of the game, then kept their defence strong while making the most of their opportunities as Adam Taggart scored two. 90 + 3' - Wenzel-Halls with his first touch for the Roar trying to go up the guts. He loses his footing, City come up with the ball and then Papadoplous takes out one of the City players, winning a free kick for the visitors - not that it's going to matter too much at this point as time runs towards the final 60 seconds. Brisbane Roar 2 Melbourne City 0

90 + 1' - City on the ball and they are in the last chance saloon here. Ball into the penalty area from Atkinson to Vidosic, but it's picked off by the defenders who again, are playing well back here and trying to shut down anything and everything here. Brisbane Roar 2 Melbourne City 0

88' - City don't look like scoring. They play from side to side and look like they are in control, but it's just not dangerous or threatening into the penalty area. When they do - like here, with this cross - it's defended far too easily. Brisbane Roar 2 Melbourne City 0

85' - City went left without much happening, then the ball came back to the middle. Caceres took a shot, but he was stationary and had to turn, so it goes flying over the crossbar. Young didn't even move or react. Brisbane Roar 2 Melbourne City 0

84' - Time running short for City, but it just doesn't look like they are going to find a way to score here. Struggling with execution and Brisbane are stacking the defence now. I'd say, at a guess, this might well be the final scoreline today. Brisbane Roar 2 Melbourne City 0

82' - Berengeur with a big shot on goal from outside the penalty box here. That just came from nothing as he ran out of options and it flies past the right post. Would have given Jamie Young a problem or two if it was on target there. Brisbane Roar 2 Melbourne City 0

81' - Baccus now with a heavy foul. Pressure relieved and this trainwreck continues for City as they squander opportunities and struggle to keep Brisbane at bay. Brisbane Roar 2 Melbourne City 0

80' - Short corner, then the cross comes from Baccus, but that's gone straight into the middle of the pack and is an easy clearance in the end there for Papadoplous. The ball came back briefly, but it's eventually cleared back towards the centre of the ground. Brisbane Roar 2 Melbourne City 0

78' - Vidosic will be the man who now wears the burden of trying to get City across the line with some goals here. Anyway, nothing this time before a Brisbane counter is shut down as well. Brisbane Roar 2 Melbourne City 0

76' - City getting ready to make a double change here. They are forced to work back to their defensive line here, then there is a turnover with Mikkelsen passing to the back post for Taggart who was there, but Galekovic makes the save. Brisbane Roar 2 Melbourne City 0

75' - Atkinson and McGree with some good link-up work here for City on the right, but the eventual shot is cleared. The ball comes back through Atkinson, but his pass is taken away with some scrappy play going on at the moment. Brisbane have 9 behind the ball at the moment, so they are starting to just defend this lead now. Brisbane Roar 2 Melbourne City 0
