The Brisbane Roar host Melbourne Victory at Suncorp Stadium with a chance to grab their second win of the season. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:50pm (AEDT).

Brisbane’s season remains stuck in first gear after what appeared a promising start. Since the first few weeks of the league, where they peppered the goal without being able to grab the wins many felt they deserved, things have slowly but surely slipped away.

Sitting in ninth place and in serious danger of claiming the unenviable wooden spoon, new manager Darren Davies has a heck of a task trying to lift his team’s performance and spirit in order to salvage something from this year.

The season has just passed its halfway point and there are plenty of opportunities to do it, but the players need to make the change if the Roar are to save any face in 2018/19.

Things look a whole lot better for the Melbourne Victory, sitting high on the table and with marquee man Keisuke Honda getting closer to a return by the day. Ola Toivonen has taken up the slack in his absence and James Troisi has supported him well up front.

Defensively they have been sound, with Thomas Deng and Leigh Broxham leading the way at the back.

This will be a considerable challenge for the Roar and the Victory will need to resist the temptation of complacency.

Prediction
Predicting a Roar win here would be either brave or stupid depending on the result. I can’t do it. Even in fourth gear, the Victory should be able to handle the Roar.

Look for another good effort from the northerners, yet the class on the pitch will tell in the end and Melbourne will snatch the points.
