Round 5 A-League Men action continues when Brisbane Roar takes on Sydney FC at Moreton Daily Stadium in Redcliffe. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 3pm (AEST).

After a loss in the opening Round, Sydney FC has been unbeaten since, and travels to Redcliffe with some serious momentum building in their 2022/23 campaign.

The early loss to the Victory has been followed by wins against Western United and Macarthur FC, with a hard-fought draw against Adelaide wedged in between.

Brisbane have three draws in the books this season, yet just the lone goal of which to speak and front-line productivity is once again looming as a significant issue for Warren Moon’s team.

Englishman Joe Lolley has been superb for the Sky Blues since arriving and Robert Mak has been consistent on the opposite side of the attacking arrow, despite injury to Adam le Fondre making things look a little less familiar up top for Sydney. Luke Brattan has returned from a season of frustration and injury to begin to command the holding midfield, yet allowing eight goals across the opening four matches will not please coach Steve Corica one iota and he will be looking for a tightening of that area today against the Roar.

Team news sees Brisbane without Jordan Holmes after his send-off last weekend and Jez Lofthouse has not come up from an injury concern, although the return of Jack Hingert is a welcomed one for the home side. Sydney are significantly impacted by injury, with Alex Wilkinson, Jack Rodwell and Adam le Fondre all unavailable, with Connor O’Toole earning a call up for the trip north.

Prediction

Should Brisbane be able to hold out what is a dynamic and potent Sydney front line, with Lolley looking like a potential Johnny Warren Medalist at this stage of the season, they could well be on their way to yet another point.

Brisbane have struggled to score and looked unlikely to, yet will be hoping for some better fortune in attack against a Sydney FC defence that has leaked a few this season.

Hard to go past a Sydney FC win here, with their three goals not able to be matched by a Brisbane Roar team that continues to struggle.
