The Socceroos will be out to claim their third-straight victory on the road to the 2022 FIFA World Cup when they travel to Kaohsiung to take on Chinese Taipei on Tuesday evening. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 10:40pm (AEDT).

Australia will enter this match as red-hot favourites, as they did last time out when they rolled past Nepal in a 5-0 thumping.

In saying that, the scoreline should have been a lot more. Australia seemed tentative with the football, going back far too often and not executing all that well in the final third.

While it’s hard to gauge where the side are truly at when the disparity of player performance between the two sides was so far apart, Graham Arnold will feel his side should have run up double what they actually did against Nepal.

Three points is three points though, and Australia sit at the top of Group B in the second round of qualification, which, realistically, they should be able to go through without dropping a single game.

Their first performance in qualification for the Cup, a 3-0 win on the road over Kuwait, gives a solid impression of where the Socceroos are at though, and a combined scoreline of 8-0 across their first two games is nothing to be laughed at.

Graham Arnold has indicated there will be changes to the XI tonight, as they look to keep players fresh ahead of a demanding qualification campaign and continue to use the depth in the squad.

Chinese Taipei on the other side, ranked just inside the top 120 in the world, are not expected to go through to the third round of qualification, and their results so far agree with that.

The Taiwanese might be ranked ahead of Nepal on the FIFA rankings, but lost their last game at home to the fellow minnows, and now seem destined to finish last in the group.

That would leave them entering Asian Cup qualification at the earliest possible round, which was hardly the result they were after, even if World Cup qualification was always a distant dream.

Still, they were better than their showing against Nepal suggests, with a 2-1 loss in their opener against Jordan the way they need to play this evening if they are to stay competitive.

Prediction
Just like last time out, Australia really shouldn’t have very many problems. The travel and short turnaround might make for a slightly lower scoreline than there would be at home, but they should have this locked away by the halftime break.

Chinese Taipei 0 – Australia 5.
