Manchester United and Leeds United meet at Optus Stadium in Perth as the English clubs continue their pre-season tours around the globe. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 9pm (AEST).

Perth football fans receive a real treat this evening, with the pleasure of seeing one of the biggest clubs in world football face quality EFL competition in the form of Leeds United.

Manchester United have the dollars, history and trophies to demand attention as they travel through the southern hemisphere, preparing for the upcoming Premier League season.

With new signings, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be looking for a quick start to the season and considerable improvement on their disappointing sixth place finish in 2018-19. This tour could prove to be vital preparation and a chance to home some combinations.

Leeds were also deflated at the completion of the 2018-19 season, with a third-place finish not translating into a successful play-off campaign and the subsequent promotion to the top flight of English football for which they had hoped.

Sadly, they will battle away again in the EFL, yet do have a strong squad and will have eyes on a return to the Premier League in 2020/21.

James Garner and Marcus Rashford scored goals for the Red Devils in their win against the Perth Glory on Saturday and despite the relatively weak opposition, there were positive signs in the way they moved the ball around. Leeds will be looking for some similar positives as they take on a seriously well-armed squad in Perth tonight.

Despite the friendly nature of the contest, it is likely that both managers will be pushing hard in an attempt to extract as much information and intelligence from the match as possible, with starting spots in both teams up for grabs.

Prediction
Saturday’s hit-out against the Glory will have served Manchester well and they should be primed to find the net on numerous occasions against an underdone Leeds.

Manchester United 4 – Leeds United 1.
