Australia vs Chile
2018 women's international football friendly, November 10. Time: Full-time.
|Venue: Panthers Stadium, Penrith|
The Matildas welcome Chile to the Penrith Stadium on Saturday for the first ever match between the two sides as part of the Seven Consulting International Series. Join The Roar for live coverage from 3:30pm (AEST).
As football friendlies go they don’t come much more exciting than this.
Matildas head coach, Alen Stajcic, will be expecting a strong performance from his side with big stars, including Sam Kerr, returning.
This solid test, along with Tuesday night’s re-match in Newcastle, will go a long way to determining which ladies will represent Australia in next years FIFA Women’s World Cup squad.
Promising 15-year-old Mary Fowler will not feature amid speculation the youngster is heading for Europe.
The Chileans, 39th in the FIFA rankings, arrive in New South Wales off the back of an impressive Copa America in which they finished runners-up.
The presence of Canberra United’s Maria Jose Rojas in attack for the Las Chicas de Rojo will add an extra pinch of spice to this fixture.
Chile may be the emerging nation in the women’s game but it would be a shock should the Matildas not return to winning ways with Sam Kerr and co back in the fold.
Never-the-less, the contrast in footballing styles makes this an intriguing match up.
