The Matildas have defeated the Korea Republic 4-1 at Suncorp Stadium to put themselves in the box seat to win the Cup of Nations.
Frankly, I expected much more of a contest tonight yet was very impressed with the clinical performance of the Australians against quality opposition.
The Kiwis proved a tough nut to crack in their first match and there appeared to be a few issues with connectivity in the front third.
Tonight, all those issues were well and truly resolved as the Matildas clicked up front and created a host of chances on a beautiful night in Brisbane.
Lisa De Vanna was back on the score sheet early before a well taken free kick from Ji had the visitors level. After that, it was plain sailing for the home side with a Sam Kerr penalty followed up by her second goal seconds before the break, when the Koreans played back poorly and the Australian captain pounced.
The domination continued in the second half, yet goals proved elusive until Emily Gielnik scored a belter from a tight angle in the 81st minute to cap off a successful night for the team.
From a Korean perspective it was nothing less than a disappointment. Playing a physical game, they attempted to bustle the Australians but failed at every hurdle and should have had a far greater number of cards shown to them than the referee was prepare to brandish.
It sets up an interesting clash between the Republic and New Zealand and gives the Australians a chance to wrap up the tournament with a win against the Argentinians on Wednesday night in Melbourne.

After a solid opening 2-0 win against New Zealand in Sydney, the Matildas head north to Suncorp Stadium to take on Korea Republic.
The Koreans trounced the Argentinians 5-0 in their opening match and these teams look like early favourites for the Cup of Nations crown.
This is a fantastic event for the sixth ranked Matildas, as they prepare for the World Cup in France this June; even more so after the turbulence of the last three months.
The players looked excited to be back out on the pitch and away from the prying eyes of the media that became far too much of a focus in recent weeks.
While far from a perfect performance, the Australians were easily the better side against the Kiwis and eventually found ways to break them down.
Although, they will be disappointed that they were not able to find a few more successful strikes on goal.
The 14th-ranked Korea Republic looked terrific against a defensively awful Argentina and because of that fact, it is hard to know just how good they were considering how poorly the South Americans played.
In typical Korean fashion, the speed on and around the ball looked impressive and the finishing was particularly effective.
The Koreans appear to play a very unselfish and team orientated style with the sum of the parts as the goal and the Matildas will be tested in what promises to be a very entertaining clash.
The match presents the opportunity for Ante Milicic to experiment with his starting line up, after opening with his best 11 in the first match.
Look for some of the fringe players to get more time on the pitch tonight against a very deep Korean squad.
Prediction
I am finding it difficult to pick a winner in this match and so I don’t think there will be one.
I am seeing a draw on a night where the Matildas may take the field in something of an experimental form.
If they are able to adapt to the speed and agility of the Korean front line, their defence will hold.
Yet finding goals may prove a little difficult if Milicic does indeed ring the changes for this match.
