It’s win or go home from here for the Matildas as they take on South Korea in an AFC Asian Cup quarter-final in Pune. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7pm (AEDT).

After a brilliant group phase of the 2022 Asian Cup, Australia enters the knock-out stage full of confidence, injury-free and ready to take the next step towards confederation silverware.

South Korea are the Matildas’ opponent in the final eight, another team undefeated thus far in the tournament.

After securing a 1-1 result against the might of Japan during the group stage, they will be confident of defeating the Australians in Pune tonight.

Despite scoring 26 goals and conceding just one during the group stage, the Matildas will have a far more difficult task before them tonight. A slick and skilful South Korea will zip the ball around in a manner that often creates doubt in the bigger and more powerful Australian defenders.

Such a situation could be easily overcome by a couple of early goals and a confident Matildas team; however, as we saw from the Philippines and Thailand earlier in the tournament, the Australians can be ruffled and a South Korean win in this fixture is far from an impossibility.

Logic says the Aussies win this one and the class of some of their European-based stars probably gets the job done. However, this appears to have upset written all over it and I would be hesitant to invest in the Matildas with such a formidable opposition in front of them.

The biggest of all upsets with South Korea to triumph 3-2 in a tournament-shocking result.
