Melbourne City can still move into fifth and avoid facing Melbourne Victory in the first week of finals. A win against the Central Coast Mariners would go a long way to making it happen. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:50pm (AEST).

Two goals from Riley McGree wasn’t enough to stop Wellington last week. The 3-2 loss has set City a task for this round to avoid a finals derby next week.

They first need to beat Central Coast. Then have Wellington lose to Perth on Sunday. And have enough goals scored across both games to negate the current six-goal difference between themselves and Wellington.

Central Coast are stuck in tenth, yet they haven’t given up at the back end of the season. Last week they proved that with a 3-1 win over Western Sydney.

City have opted to rest Ritchie De Laet and Harrison Delbridge. Rostyn Griffiths will also miss with a hamstring injury.

Scott Jamieson and Bart Schenkeveld were both due to come back last round, however neither of them travelled to Wellington. They are named to come back in this week along with Dario Vidosic, Connor Metcalfe and Idrus Abdulahi.

Central Coast will be without Kye Rowles after he picked up a three-match ban for his tackle on Alex Baumjohann last round.

Connor Pain, Stephen Mallon and Mario Shabow are named to come into the squad.

Prediction
McGree has started the last two games for City, and they’ve looked better for it. Central Coast don’t have a Roy Krishna type to challenge the defence as much as last week. City should get the result, but the Mariners won’t lie down and let it happen.

Melbourne City 2 – 0 Central Coast
