Melbourne Victory look to get back on the right track as they approach finals with their match against Central Coast Mariners on Sunday evening at AAMI Park. Join The Roar for live scores and a blog of the match, starting from 5pm (AEST).

It’s been a bad week for Melbourne Victory.

First, they lost to Sydney FC on an atrocious pitch at the SCG due to a last-minute goal from Milos Ninkovic, which will likely mean that they will finish third and will have to play an extra match comes finals.

Then, Kevin Muscat’s side were absolutely pummelled by Guangzhou Evergrande when they traveled to China for the Asian Champions League, which all but confirmed they are out of the tournament at the first possible stage.

Which makes their next match so important because spirits will undoubtedly be very low. Thankfully, they are against the bottom of the table dwellers, Central Coast Mariners.

The Mariners have looked a bit more stable since former Matildas coach Alen Stajcic has come in, though they were dismantled last week by league leaders Perth Glory in their 3-0 loss.

With rumours swirling that Stajcic, currently only an interim boss, will soon be offered a permanent position with the team, some of his players will be looking to next season and hoping to impress so that their services can be retained in the next campaign.

That added incentive from the Central Coast players will make this match far from straightforward for Muscat’s men, but with finals looming, it’s time for his team to get back to their best to retain their A-League championship title.
