Two sides in desperate need of a win meet when the Melbourne Victory take on the Newcastle Jets at AAMI Park. Tune into The Roar’s live scores of the match from 4:05pm (AEDT).
Not much has gone to plan for the Victory this season. In fact, it’s hard to think of anything which has. Sitting right at the bottom of the ladder, they’ve hardly led a game all season, and then had the inconvenience of having a game postponed last weekend due to Victoria’s short lockdown.
Back on the field tonight against the Jets, they’ll be hoping for a tighter effort at the back. They’ve leaked an average of two goals a game, and without a good enough attack to overcome that handicap, it’s a recipe for disaster.
Newcastle have found wins hard to come by this season, with only one more than Melbourne so far despite having played two more games. However, it is some consolation that they’ve at least made themselves a difficult side to beat, entering tonight on a four-match undefeated streak.
Much of that is down to their defence. They haven’t conceded more than a single goal in a match in more than a month, and with the Victory’s attack far from lethal, they’ll be expecting another miserly performance this evening.
