The F3 Derby will be played out at McDonald Jones Stadium, as the Newcastle Jets host the Central Coast Mariners. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from 7:45pm (AEDT).

Both teams head into this one after frustrating matches last time out. Newcastle were arguably unlucky to get out of Sydney with no goals, but a red card instead. Central Coast, on the other hand, got off to a brilliant start through an early Matt Millar goal, before Brisbane equalised and held on to the point.

The shining light in the Mariners’ season is reformed wing back Millar. A goal last week and four assists so far this season should again see him being a focal point of the club’s attack down the right side.

Jason Hoffman will miss this match as a result of the match review panel choosing to uphold the red card and the automatic one-game ban that comes with it.

Happily for Newcastle, Daniel Georgievski will return from his ban and be able to cover the fullback gap left by Hoffman

For Central Coast Matt Simon will miss this match through suspension, his coming after picking up his fifth yellow card against Brisbane.

This opens up an opportunity for one of the NPL signings they have. Jordan Murray has been the next man up so far this season, but Josh MacDonald has also been named in the squad.

Jake McGing has also been left out with a hamstring injury.

Prediction
Central Coast have been improving lately – especially in attack. The recent win, draw and close losses are a testament to that, but their defence has still been lacking.

For that reason, I feel Newcastle will edge this one.
