With dreams of a third premiership in four seasons all but dashed last weekend, Sydney FC will be hoping for a return to form as they travel up the M1 to face cellar-dwellers Newcastle Jets. Stay up to date with their A-League clash with live scores on The Roar from 5:05pm (AEST).

The home side have looked bereft of confidence in recent weeks, finding themselves on a club-record equalling 11-game winless streak.

The early season form of Valentino Yuel and co a distant memory as they face a third consecutive season without finals football. Still, Jets fans can find solace in their team’s recent home record against the Sky Blues, having lost just one of the previous four encounters at McDonald Jones Stadium.

Sydney FC are in no great shape themselves, with just a solitary win in their previous seven away fixtures. Working with an ageing squad and the apparent reluctance to rotate his starting eleven, coach Steve Corica has plenty to ponder with six matches remaining in the regular season. He’ll be forced into at least one change this week, though, with Anthony Caceres all but certain to come in for the suspended Luke Brattan.

There will have been mixed reactions in the Hunter to the news of wantaway midfielder Steven Ugarkovic’s move to Western Sydney, though Jets fans will no doubt be encouraged by the acquisition of Jordan O’Doherty. The diminutive 23-year old midfielder, now at his third club, has shown plenty of potential in his 63 League appearances to date.

These two sides are both in difficult patches of form, so you’d normally expect a drab affair. But, then again, this is the A-League. Anything can happen.
