The Newcastle Jets and Wellington Phoenix will finish their respective regular-season campaigns in a clash that comes to you from McDonald Jones Stadium. You can join The Roar for live scores from 7:30pm (AEST).

For the hosts, there is not much left to play for but pride. They did their part in their bid for a top-six spot last time out with a 1-0 win over Western United, but other results have gone against them and they now sit on the outside looking in.

Carl Robinson’s men would have hoped to play finals football, but after a disrupted season they might settle for three points tonight as they look ahead to 2020-21. The new boss will get one more look at his side before the off-season and will look to strengthen before Newcastle’s next competitive match in December.

Ufuk Talay’s side come to the Hunter knowing a top-two finish is still in play if they collect all three points, but it will also depend on the result of Melbourne City’s clash with Western United. Regardless, they will be looking to finish an already solid season on a high note and a win would at the very least guarantee the Nix their highest-ever finish on the ladder.

Chances are they will be playing on either Saturday or Sunday week in one of the elimination finals and every bit of confidence and match-fitness will help. Sudden death football is a different beast, but the manager may well have been preparing them as if tonight’s clash is under the same conditions.

Former Celtic striker Gary Hooper picked up a hamstring injury in the act of scoring in the draw with Brisbane Roar last time out and will miss tonight’s fixture. It’s unclear if he will be fit to play in the finals. They are boosted by the return of centre-back Luke DeVere, however.

Prediction
Wellington will be too strong in this one. Expect them to come away with the chocolates 2-0.
