The Newcastle Jets host the Wellington Phoenix in what looms as a season-defining match for both teams. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:50pm (AEDT).

Finally, the Jets did some net bulging against the Wanderers last week and found the three points they so desperately needed. Tonight presents the opportunity for real momentum to be built when the Phoenix roll into town looking to rebound after a tough and comprehensive loss to the Glory last Saturday night.

Roy O’Donovan looks to be finding some match fitness and form, Dimi Petratos shook off the critics against the Wanderers and, for the first time this season, the Newcastle attack looked highly likely to score against a very disappointing Wanderers side.

With the added incentive of Jason Hoffman’s 200th appearance, the Jets will be ready to take on the Phoenix at their own game. The frequency of chances that the Jets create is only let down by innacurate finishing. Last weekend we saw signs that luck may have shifted a little in their direction and with the weapons to trouble the visitors, they could make life very tough for the men in yellow.

Mark Rudan will be looking for the instant bounce back after a humbling 3-0 loss to the Glory, albeit with some key personnel on the pine. Andrew Durante and Steven Taylor come straight back in for this game and that immediately makes the Phoenix a completely different proposition.

Filip Kurto is in rare form. Sarpreet Singh, Roy Krishna and David Williams have struck up a real friendship and with a healthy and deep squad, the Phoenix will bring a winning mindset to this match.

Prediction
This looks to be a potential ripper; sixth versus seventh on the ladder and just eight points separating the teams, with a potential 30 still on offer over the final ten weeks.

The Jets will narrow that gap to five tonight and tighten up the race for the final spot in the six. The home crowd and the ‘Hoffinator’ factor will be the difference in a low scoring and tight affair.
