Tony Popovic’s first match as the coach of the Perth Glory will be against the club he had so much success with, the Western Sydney Wanderers. Popovic was the inaugural coach of the Wanderers when they entered the league for the 2012-13 season and would have many great memories from his time there.
Popovic took the Wanderers to a first-place finish in their first season in the A-League and the side then went on to win the AFC Champions League.
However with just days before the launch of the 2017-18 season last year, Popovic quit the club to take up an opportunity with Karabukspor in Turkey.
He was sacked after nine game in charge and has returned to Australia, but instead of coming back to the Wanderers has been given the opportunity to lead Perth Glory into the new season.
Both of these sides will be hoping to progress through to the finals this year after falling short in 2017-18.
The Wanderers managed only eight wins last season, Perth ten.
