Match result:

Sydney FC have put the cleaners through Brisbane Roar at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium, in a dominant performance that has put the entire A-League competition on notice.

It was one-way traffic for the Sky Blues tonight, with Adam Le Fondre scoring a hat trick, Trent Buhagiar finding the net and Milos Ninkovic returning to top form with a goal of his own and an impressive game.

In short, Brisbane were awful. Lacking effort, diligence and persistence, they were put to the sword by the home side and only a late penalty to Roy O’Donovan saw then find the score sheet, on what was a disappointing night for the men in orange.

Robbie Fowler is under pressure and the Roar need to find something briskly if they are to contend in 2019/20.

Based on tonight’s performance, they will not. There are some positive signs and a spot in the top six does loom as a carrot on the horizon, yet they will need to improve immensely.

Sydney FC will have even grander plans, with another championship season well and truly on the cards under the impressive management of Steve Corica.

Right now, it is doubtful any side can challenge them, yet the season is a long one and staying the course could be the litmus test for the Sky Blues.

Sydney FC and Brisbane Roar meet in Round 9 A-League action at Netsrata Jubilee Stadium. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7:30pm (AEDT).

The Sky Blues sit atop the A-League ladder after eight rounds and four successive victories and have looked nothing other than the class of the field so far in season 2019/20.

New recruits Alex Baumjohann and Kosta Barbarouses have made a seamless transition into the already strong squad and Luke Brattan has also been impressive in his new home.

Tonight they take on an improving Brisbane Roar team that was struggling earlier on before beginning to find some form over the last month.

Manager Robbie Fowler has stuck to his guns and players, resisting wholesale changes. That loyalty has paid off recently with six points taken the last nine available and wins against Central Coast and Melbourne City book-ending a disappointing loss against the Phoenix in Wellington.

The Roar are enjoying a great fitness run, with their entire squad available for this clash in Sydney.

The home side are also near full strength and will particularly welcome back their Serbian star Milos Ninkovic, after he missed last week’s match against Western United with illness.

A win for Sydney will skip them well clear at the top of the ladder and another bag of points for Brisbane will see them move well inside the top six; beginning to look like a serious A-League competitor.

Prediction
It is near impossible to tip against Sydney FC at home, considering the form they are in.

However, the Roar will take the trip south into the haze, with hopes that they can indeed cause an upset.

Logic and the smart money will all be heading the Sky Blues’ way however. 2-0 appears a likely result.

Catch all the action on The Roar live coverage from 7:30pm (AEDT).
