Sydney FC host Melbourne Victory in the second A-League semi-final. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 7pm (AEST).

With Perth Glory now waiting in the west for the winner of today’s match, both Sydney FC and Melbourne Victory know the exact challenge that lies ahead.

First, in order to progress to the biggest game in Australian football, they must find a way past their old rivals.

The ‘Big Blue’ is always memorable and this time around it has the added layer of determining who gets the opportunity to challenge for the championship. If previous clashes between these two sides are anything to go by, this could be one of the fieriest and most explosive matches in the history of the A-League.

With stars on either side of the ball and across both squads, the quality on display is unquestionable. Ola Toivonen, Keisuke Honda and Kosta Barbarouses hold the key to victory for the visitors, with their attacking combination a lethal one.

Siem ed Jong, Milos Ninkovic and Adam le Fondre will be doing very similar things at the opposite end, attempting to unlock the Victory defence.

Much responsibility will fall in the hands of Thomas Deng, Georg Neidermeier, Aaron Calver and Alex Wilkinson; four key defenders at the back and the attacking play of Rhyan Grant and Michael Zullo on the flanks for the home side could be a deciding factor.

Both sides attack well, defend well and fight ruthlessly. It all should climax in a thrilling match between the two biggest and most powerful clubs in the land.

Prediction
I’m tipping a victory win off the back of the touch of class they possess up top and their ability to find their way through the defence on at least one occasion.

It is hard to see too many goals being scored in this one, such is the importance of the match. To me it looks like a 1-0 win for the men in the darker shade of blue and the game could well be decided in extra-time.
