Sydney FC look for their second win of the season when they take on Wellington Phoenix. Join The Roar from 6pm AEDT for live scores and commentary.

After a chaotic, VAR-dominated game against Adelaide United in their opening fixture, Sydney FC will be looking for something more straight-forward against Wellington.

Sydney did manage to win the game 3-2 – but scrapped past with a late winner by Ryan McGowan.

They will be happy with the performance of Adam Le Fondre, who scored twice and looks like he might score for fun – especially with a full-strength squad behind him.

Andrew Redmayne, Patrick Flottmann and Rhyan Grant all return from international duty and are expected to start.

It’s also the first home game for Kosta Barbarouses and Alexander Baumjohann, who will be looking to impress.

Barbarouses has long been one of the A-League’s best players – and this Sydney side is arguably the strongest team in the league this season.

Wellington had a rough start – their one-nil loss to new-side Western United hurt especially hard given the Mark Rudan debacle – but they had some positive moments.

They also have a new-look squad and have lost some of their best players (to Western United), so no one, myself included, is expecting much from them against the Sky Blues.

Manager Ufuk Talay knows all about Sydney though and that could play in Wellington’s hands.

Talay served as Sydney FC’s assistant manager last season and returns to his former club for the first time.

Prediction
It should be fairly straightforwrad for Sydney FC, but if Talay can produce a tactical masterclass, we could see an upset. I wouldn’t put the house on it though.
