Wellington Phoenix host Adelaide United at Bankwest Stadium in the first match of a Saturday night doubleheader from Sydney’s west. Join The Roar for live scores from 5:00pm (AEST).

Two teams in finals contention meet in this one. In Wellington’s case, they will be looking to build on their start following the break. On Wednesday evening they picked up all three points against Perth Glory, and they were unlucky against Sydney FC. They will be eyeing off Melbourne City in that all-important top-two position on the ladder, so it’s imperative they keep winning.

Wellington’s most important player, Ulises Davila, put in a much stronger showing in the distance derby after a mostly forgettable night against Sydney FC. As always, Wellington will be leaning on the crafty Mexican to make an impact. Whether that’s from the start or off the bench will be up to Ufuk Talay.

Speaking to Fox Sports, Davila said, “It’s up to the boss [when I play from the start]. I’m feeling good every time I come on. I hope to get [the start] as soon as possible”.

For Adelaide, rookie coach Carl Veart will be hoping to make it two wins from two following the restart of play in the A-League. Don’t forget, the new Adelaide boss is still auditioning for the head coach role in a permanent capacity. Another resolute defensive performance will be the key to a Reds win here.

“Hats off to them – they defended the goal fantastically,” Veart said of his side following the Brisbane game.

Goalkeeper Paul Izzo put up the brick wall in Adelaide’s return game and expect him to be busy again tonight. Wellington’s attack has looked sharp in their two games back with three goals scored, and they likely would have had another had VAR been in place against Sydney FC.

Prediction:
A draw might be a decent bet in this one. It’s a clash stylistically between the two managers and if Adelaide can keep to their defensive structures, it’ll be low scoring. I’ll go for a stalemate: 1-1.
