It’s Sydney Derby 2.0 for season 2018=19, and this time it is Western Sydney Wanderers who welcome their sky blue rivals Sydney FC as the team with some form heading into this fixture at ANZ Stadium. Join The Roar from 7:50pm (AEDT) for live scores and blog of the game.

In sport, they say a win fixes everything, and for the Wanderers, last week’s win over the Central Coast came just in time for a nice little confidence boost going into the derby.

The Wanderers, the one-time boom club and feel-good story of the league, really need a win in this fixture.

Just the one win in 14 derbies – that has got to hurt for Western Sydney, particularly when come next season, Sydney will be a crowd of three.

The key for Western Sydney tonight will be three things: disciplined defence, creating and taking more chances, and Alexander Baumjohann maintaining his stellar form from last round.

If he can re-produce last Friday’s performance, the Wanderers are in with a huge chance to grab another derby win.

As for Sydney, again, it just takes one performance to paint a picture.

Sydney in the space of 45 minutes went from one of three early pacesetters to the head of a pack chasing the top two, and all in the blink of an eye.

The Sky Blues will want to be careful.

The ingredients are there – Adam Le Fondre, Frenkie de Jong, Milos Ninkovic – but they will be wise not to leave the combinations working too late in the piece, or else they will see the season evaporate before their very eyes.

While it only took one performance to alter the perception of Sydney FC as a contender, so too can they use this performance to recalibrate the perspective and remind everyone of the powerhouse that they are.

Prediction
History on the side of the Sky Blues, and this fixture always bring the best out of them. The Wanderers played well last week, but that was Central Coast, and this is Sydney.

Sydney FC to win 3-1.
