It’s Sydney Derby 2.0 for season 2018=19, and this time it is Western Sydney Wanderers who welcome their sky blue rivals Sydney FC as the team with some form heading into this fixture at ANZ Stadium. Join The Roar from 7:50pm (AEDT) for live scores and blog of the game.

In sport, they say a win fixes everything, and for the Wanderers, last week’s win over the Central Coast came just in time for a nice little confidence boost going into the derby.

The Wanderers, the one-time boom club and feel-good story of the league, really need a win in this fixture.

Just the one win in 14 derbies – that has got to hurt for Western Sydney, particularly when come next season, Sydney will be a crowd of three.

The key for Western Sydney tonight will be three things: disciplined defence, creating and taking more chances, and Alexander Baumjohann maintaining his stellar form from last round.

If he can re-produce last Friday’s performance, the Wanderers are in with a huge chance to grab another derby win.

As for Sydney, again, it just takes one performance to paint a picture.

Sydney in the space of 45 minutes went from one of three early pacesetters to the head of a pack chasing the top two, and all in the blink of an eye.

The Sky Blues will want to be careful.

The ingredients are there – Adam Le Fondre, Frenkie de Jong, Milos Ninkovic – but they will be wise not to leave the combinations working too late in the piece, or else they will see the season evaporate before their very eyes.

While it only took one performance to alter the perception of Sydney FC as a contender, so too can they use this performance to recalibrate the perspective and remind everyone of the powerhouse that they are.

Prediction
History on the side of the Sky Blues, and this fixture always bring the best out of them. The Wanderers played well last week, but that was Central Coast, and this is Sydney.

Sydney FC to win 3-1.

Full Time Sydney remains sky blue after Sydney FC won yet another derby over ten man Wanderers with a scoreline this time 3-1. It was all Wanderers to open the match, after a 50 minute delay due to lightning threatening player safety, but the turning point in the match was the correct sending off for a brain fade by Vedran Janjetovic, when he tried to save a shot from outside the area. When Marcus Babbel took off Alexander Baumjohann, the Wanderers seemingly had put the cue in the rack after 26 minutes. The Wanderers had taken the lead through Oriel Riera, and looked good to add to their haul. The sending off turned the match, and when Alex Brosque equalised for the sky blues on half time, there was only ever going to be one result. Further second half goals to Siem de Jong and debutant Jacob Tratt, sealed another derby win for the mighty Sydney FC. Western Sydney will look back again on what might have been, and Vedran Janjetovic will now have to make up a lot to repay his teammates for a potential vital win that Western Sydney needed in terms of the current season, and the derby history. For Sydney FC, the win revitalises their season, after a disappointing past few weeks, and keeps them in touch with the top two. 3-1 the final score, and the third match up between these two sides later this season promises to be a return match worth waiting for. Yellow Card 86' - Zullo carded for a dive in the area. Wanderers player slide tackled, but the foul wasn't there. I don't think the ref has had a bad night tonight. Got the calls right tonight. Western Sydney - 1 Sydney FC - 3

Goal 82' - Game, set, and match, Sydney. The corner is a sliding bullet, and it's the new boy Tratt who bullets it home. Keeper should have come for that, but when the Wanderers lose tonight, Nizic won't be the keeper to blame for the result tonight. Western Sydney - 1 Sydney FC - 3

76' - Wanderers managing a bit of territorial dominance, but nothing material comes of it. Redmayne did nothing in the end. And Sydney return to their monopolising of possession. Western Sydney - 1 Sydney FC - 2
