Show Preview
Having won just one of their past seven games, Western United need nothing short of a win to keep their flickering finals hopes alive, when they host the Central Coast Mariners on Saturday afternoon. Join The Roar for live scores from 4pm (AEDT).
Having been a fixture in the top six for much of the first half of their debut season, United now find themselves at the crossroads.
They’ve yet to score a goal in three matches thus far in February, and the alarm bells will really be ringing if they can’t find the back of the net against the A-League’s most leaky defence in the last-placed Mariners.
If there’s a team in worse touch than United, though, it’s definitely the Mariners. Six straight defeats, and eight of their past nine, see Alen Stajcic’s men back in their now depressingly familar position of dead last on the ladder.
Prediction
It’s all but season over for United if they can’t deal with the Mariners in this one. They should, but with their attack woefully out of sorts, it won’t be easy.
