Australian Nick Kyrgios continues his Australian Open campaign against Frenchman Gilles Simon in the second round. Join The Roar for live coverage of the match, with live scores and a blog from 6:45pm (AEDT) on Thursday.

Nick Kyrgios was back on one of his favourite courts on Tuesday evening, where he beat Lorenzo Sonego of Italy in straight sets.

The match had its challenges for the 23rd seed, but Kyrgios went on to win convincingly 6-2, 7-6 (3), 7-6 (1).

There is a different feeling about the notorious bad boy of tennis, as he is keeping his cool and playing inspired tennis for a greater cause this summer.

Kyrgios is back on the people’s court and his opponent in the second round is world No.61 Gilles Simon.

Simon beat Pablo Cuevas of Uruguay to advance to the second round of the Australian Open 6-1, 6-3, 6-3 in a convincing performance on Tuesday.

The right-hander took less than two hours to dismiss the struggling Cuevas, but has a tougher task ahead against Kyrgios on the Aussie’s home deck.

Kyrgios and Simon have met once before, in the second round of the Citi Open in Washington last year. Kyrgios won 6-4, 7-6 (5) and went on to claim the title, the sixth of his career.

Prediction
If Kyrgios is firing, he has the power to beat Simon in convincing fashion. The Frenchman will challenge him though, extending rallies and waiting for Kyrgios to get impatient and make the mistakes.

With the help of the Melbourne Arena crowd, the Australian should get across the line.

Kyrgios to win in four sets.
