After a bizarre couple of hours on court yesterday, Nick Kyrgios will attempt to get to the quarter-finals of the Brisbane International as he takes on Jeremy Chardy. Join The Roar for live scores and coverage from around 3:30pm (AEDT).

Kyrgios was under a cloud coming into the tournament. Apart from his usual on-court antics, the defending Brisbane champion was in hospital for some time leading up to the start of the tournament after a spider bite.

His lack of off-season training was also clear for all to see yesterday.

While he got over Ryan Harrison in straight sets, he his 45 aces and really, only played about four or five physical ponts for the whole match, only turning up the motor when he really needed to.

Harrison was able to hang around with his own good serving, but today’s opponent, Jeremy Chardy doesn’t possess the same weapons and so it’s a bit of a mystery how the Frenchman will be able to hang around in a match like this one.

Chardy did have an impressive first up victory yesterday as he got the better of Jan-Lennard Struff, but this will be another challenge for the 23-year-old, who rightly comes in as a heavy outsider.

Prediction
It’s hard to see Kyrgios winning this if he plays at his best, but then, ‘if he plays at his best,’ are the keywords. Words which no one knows the answer to and could change multiple times throughout the match.

Still, as long as his serve is kicking, he won’t need much more and should get the job done for a berth in the quarter-finals.
