Show Preview

Petra Kvitova and Madison Keys meet in a semi-final encounter at the Brisbane International. Join The Roar for live scores and commentary from 3pm (AEDT).

World number 13 Madison Keys comes into this match off the back of a thumping quarter-final victory over her compatriot Danielle Collins. Keys was near perfect and Collins rattled from the opening point. The final 6-4 6-1 score line said much about Key’s domination and the solid form she brings into this match up.

World number 7 Kvitova was equally impressive in her 6-4 6-2 victory over American Jennifer Brady in the second of the quarters. The famous Kvitova serve and sweeping ground strokes were on show and the power in both proved too much for the emerging player.

As such, this match will come down to aggression, power and initiative, with whoever is able to step in and land the first decisive blow in the majority of rallies, the player likely to prove the winner.

A spot in the final awaits the victor and with two evenly matched and gifted players, it will be earned by nothing other than a polished performance in what looms as a tight match.

Prediction
Despite being early in the season, both players looked in good touch during their previous matches. I’m leaning to Kvitova, knowing full well that Keys still has the tendency to become erratic when under pressure. On the basis of that, I’m seeing a three set victory for the Czech player.
