WATCH: The moment Ash Barty reached the semi-finals at the Australian Open

Ash Barty has become the first Australian since Lleyton Hewitt in 2005 to make the semi-finals of the Australian Open in singles.

She’s also the first Aussie woman to make the last four since Wendy Turnbull in 1984.

Barty had some psychological demons to overcome, taking on Petra Kvitova, the same woman who defeated Barty in the quarter-finals at last year’s tournament.

This time around Barty was determined to take the first set and she did so in a gruelling first-set tiebreak which went well over an hour.

That set gave her renewed confidence and Barty quickly raced to a double break in the second. Barty held her composure to win the match 7-6, 6-2 and book a semi-final spot on Thursday against American Sofia Kenin.
