Don't underestimate Manchester United

By Matthew Wilson / Roar Pro

It seems that what looked like a clear cut win for the Red Devils to claim the EPL this season has now come down to the wire, with Liverpool now only a point behind.

But even though it seems all odds are against United to claim the title, they will overcome the bad patch and win yet again another EPL.

There are eight games left to play with the big tests being Arsenal, Man City and, of course, Aston Villa next week.

With red cards for Paul Scholes, Wayne Rooney and Nemanja Vidic, the Devils have three top class players unable to face Villa.

United just have to play their best eleven they have at the moment and show the world, and particularly Liverpool, that their last two defeats was just a bad patch.

In 1996/97, United were beaten 6-3 at Southampton and 5-0 at Newcastle back to back.

Everybody thought they were in crisis then and its similar now after losses to Liverpool and Fulham. This also being United’s first back to back defeat since 2005, it’s unlikely they are going to lose three.

And then there is Liverpool.

We have seen them on the top of the table earlier this year and have dropped points due to the pressure.

Liverpool has a home game against Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspurs, both showing form lately, and will be a big threat for Liverpool.

The EPL will go down to the wire this season, but don’t write United off just yet.

They’re a team full of surprises.

Pippu, yes I got back yesterday. Also got to see Brett Holman running around for AZ in their 0-0 draw with Feyenoord. As for the fantasy EPL, as I am sure you are aware, I had a shocker last gameweek, and this week looks shaky too with most of my star-studded bench injured or suspended. Had to make some tough decisions this week in my transfers. Still plenty of time for you to make up the slender lead I have on you!

Here is an extract from the link below. "The discovery that this debt in Manchester United is now a commodity on the screens of City traders drives home the still-staggering facts of the takeover. Here was a great, pre-eminent football club that prided itself on being well-run, owed not a penny to anybody, financed Sir Alex Ferguson's awesome achievements and rebuilt Old Trafford entirely with cash, yet was loaded up with £667m of debt, massively more than any other football club ever, solely to pay for the Glazer family, whom nobody wanted, to take over the club." Just, don't choke on those prawn sandwiches! http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/blog/2009/mar/25/manchester-united-debt-glazers-david-conn?commentpage

Tut tut, wils wils. I never actually thought anyone ever did underestimate Lord Wrigley's devilish henchmen. Genereal loathing works for most in its stead. Shame the Mancs don't have the power to convert the neutrals that Chelsea do...a fantastic article about Jeremy Clarkson (of all people) and his recent conversion to the mighty blues. Coincidentally I was at the same match he was in attendance. I wasn't in the same corporate box sadly... http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/columnists/jeremy_clarkson/article5949802.ece

Yeh - Chaos is right - I can't recall anyone writing Man Utd off - Liverpool have made things a little bit interesting in the run home - but that's a whole lot different to giving them much of a chance!

I don't know who has been writing them off. I haven't. They have a game in-hand. So really have to drop 4 points and have Liverpool win all the remaining games just to level. Likely? No. As much as I hate the gum chewing Fergie, I suspect they will win yet again... Their squad depth will easily cover the 'Red' cards. Man U also have the 'best, second best and third best player' in the world at the moment. In case you are wondering Cristiano Ronaldo is all three players ;) (His own words, not mine)

Matty Damn straight. Not to mention they are still in the running for four other titles this season. They know how to win championships.
