Give Deans complete control over everything

By The Crowd / Roar Guru

The loss to Scotland and the fact that there is no Grand Slam MIGHT be the wake up call that Australian Rugby Administrators needed. Grand Slam success would have papered over the cracks but news reports are suggesting that O’Neill is now looking for answers.

As Roarers, we have our ideas on what is wrong and how to fix things.

It’s done at club level, so I say do it at the national level. Let’s give Deans total control.

Let him choose his own selectors, his own High Performance Officer, his own assistants and let him publicly advocate the changes he would make at all levels of Australian Rugby.

No hiding behind fears of job security or the ruffling of feathers, but a good shake up for all concerned. If this was done, and success followed, then well and good.

If it doesn’t, then the blame can be placed where it belongs, without any suggestion that he was white-anted along the way (I still wonder whether McKenzie was a good coach for NSW or if there were other forces working against him).

The structures that were in place 20 years ago could now be obsolete in the era of professionalism.

I hate it that when people on the roar say we should fire Robbie Deans, but then never come up with a solution for who to replace him with. The whole "let's fire deans", without a solution is littered pretty much in the crowd of every wallabies article on the roar. It's easy to say lets fire him, and fair enough too given the results, but what next?

I don't mind this idea, though as I understand it, Deans did pick his assistants. But giving him carte blanche within Australian Rugby, well that's some novel thinking...

He's not the worst coach, he's the one with the worst results in the professional era. Personally, not a bad idea. The bozo administrators are the ones that created this mess, give it to someone with half an idea and no cliques, and get it sorted.

Sensational idea. Take the worst Australian coach in the last 30 years and give him MORE control! How about this: fire him.
