Pretender Mundine is just so mundane

The man, the myth, the dribble! Mundine talks an impressive game, but his list of opponents is far from impressive, and once again it is clear that Mundine and his crew are in complete control of the Australian boxing establishment.

A week out from his fight with Medley, he cannot make the weight and then has the audacity to sit there and make the comment ‘I’m Like Pacquiao!’

No, Anthony you are nothing like Pacquiao.

He is the pound-for-pound king and a peoples’ champion who embraces his fans, whilst you spit in the faces of the Australian public and media most of the time.

Pacquiao has won seven world titles in seven different weight divisions and has fought and conquered some of boxing’s biggest names in De La Hoya, Hatton and Cotto, amongst a host of other top shelf fighters (Morales, Marguez, Barrerra), and will most likely go up against Mayweather some time soon.

To sit there and say you are the best is an absolute joke.

The best fighters like Pacquiao and now Danny Green fight anyone, anywhere on any given day, and champions like Pavlik and Sturm do not duck or dodge fighters.

They defend their titles against the top contenders.

For years Mundine has talked up big name fights and rants on about being the greatest Australian sportsman, but ends up fighting the winner of the Contender!

What a joke.

The time for talk is over. Either step up and fight the best or admit that you and your management have for years handpicked your opponents in an effort to make yourself look like a contender when so far all you are is a pretender.

You are right to some degree...... Pavlik knows who Mundine is. Mundine has been "trying" to set up a bout with him for a while now. Mundine was on the verge of breaking into the US scene and was in negotiations with Don King when he made his infamous "the USA deserved 9/11" statement (which was well publicised internationally), immediately closing all his doors for promotion in that country. Mundine's only access to the USA atm is as a manditory challenger, which he is not to Pavlik, as you said he has no reason whatsoever to fight Mundine. That said it hasnt escaped me that Mundine has scampered back down to MW to challenge Pavlik, a fighter who has had well documented personal problems since getting his arse handed to him by Hopkins. Truth be known, Mundine at this stage couldnt beat ANY of the top 10 SMW's atm, as usual he's scampering around looking for the cheapest way to the top. To me any chance of a legacy for him is shot, he may as well go on fighting local fighters and using his Rugby league friends as promotional tools so that he can pickup a paycheck at the end of the night.

Have you ever met him? Anyone that meets him or spends anytime with him will tell you a very different story regarding what he is like. He talks a lot of rubbish in the media to get the attention to make the money. And it's people who, like yourself, don't like him that line his pockets by watching his fights. Away from the cameras he is a very different person, a family man who has great values, i mean we don't ever read about him being drunk in public and assaulting women do we. So what he talks it up, for the life of me i fail to see why this manages to annoy people so much and for the life of me i can't see why those people fall for it every single time and end up contributing to his ever growing wealth. It's kind of funny really isn't it.

Unfortunately I do. I am always going for the other person which is not the Australian way but his comments and the way he conducts himself make it very hard to like him. Tired of him talking himself up the way he does and then fighting no ones. Pavlik might have heard his name in passing but would never have watched him fight or watched one of his fights on video and the reason is that Mundine is not even ranked in top 15 by WBC (Geale is ranked 12th). Team Mundine do a lot of talking but never deliver on big name bouts.

You really dislike Mundine don't you. I am sure Pavlik knows who he is. There has been talk about a possible fight for a while and sounding out of Pavlik from team Mundine (from all accounts). Mundine also fought Ottke and Kessler both fighters Pavlik would know about so it's probably safe to assume he does infact know who he is after all.

Mundine beating Pavlik! Please. Pavlik is 28 years old, has had 37 fights, 36 wins with 32 KO's and 1 loss against Hopkins. Pavlik would have no idea who Mundane is. No one outside of Australia does. He is a little fish in a little pond.

Mundine fought Kevin Pompey in Cananda but has never fought in USA. Pavlik will not come here - Pavlik has never fought outside of the USA and will never need to. He is the champion and the challengers come to him. He gets big pay days in the USA. Pavlik would have no idea who Mundine is. If Mundine wants a shot then he needs to go the USA and fight on some undercards. Pavlik is 28 years old, at the peak of his career and takes 2 fights these days: Mandatory Title Defenses: and Big name pay day fights. Mundine provides neither. In the USA Mundine is a no-one. No one has any idea who he is.

He fought in America early on i think. Hopefully he gets a fight with Pavlik, the money for both fighters would be to fight out here as he did with Kessler.

Mundine won 118-113 which is a decisive points victory. I do not refute that but saying he was not in the same state is pushing it. Anyone that thinks Mundine is a top quality boxer clearly knows little about the sport. Mundine needs to go to the States and fight a stack of top ranked boxers and have a crack at Pavlik. How many times has Mundine fought in the USA? Not once to my memory. Geale had the better of Mundine and won on re-count and Mundine will not fight him again. Ducking, dodging, dribbling! Mundine is good in the D department. he is also rated a D in the eyes of the international boxing community until he fights and wins a world title.

More excuses for Greens loss to Mundine i note. Green wasn't even close to Mundine in that fight, he was well and truly schooled which ever way you look at it.

Mundine won on points. To say Mundine schooled Green is a massive over statement. Watch Jones devour Lacy prior to Green Fight. Lacy is a quality fighter with huge punching power still at the peak of his game. Green shocked the boxing world when he won. Who has Mundine shocked! His only noted win is against Green and Mundine waited for Green for a long time and took him on only after Green cooked his brain in the Perth fight which he thought he lost.

Uh... do you happen to mean "drivel"? It means "verbal rubbish" rather than"drool". And drivel exactly described Mundine's version of the English language. If he boxed as well as he mangles English, then this whole debate would be unnecessary.

Campell, I made note of Pavlik having no idea who he is above. "1.Mundine does not have an international promoter. To get big fights you need an international promoter. He has huge contacts in Jones Jnr and Senior who can easily get him close to the people he needs to but doesn’t. 2. He is a no one in the USA. When you fight no ones you are a no one. I doubt Pavlik would have ever heard of him. Pavlik is at the top of his career and a fighter of his class takes one of two fights: A. Mandatory title defences; and/or B. Big name fights that bring in a huge purse. At present Mundine provides neither of the above and Pavlik would consider him a no one. Solution – go to the US and fight on a few undercards and put away a couple of top 5 -10 ranked fighters and call Pavlik out. Mundine certainly has the chat but needs to put away a couple of tough established fighters to get noticed." Mundine and his crew know exactly how the fight game there works and they have the contacts.

Chris he needs to get a fight against Pavlik first!!! Reckon Pavlik knows who Mundine is? Yeah right! Mundine's a chump with a big mouth, fair skills and a team who know how to promote him well in his little puddle of the boxing world. If he went to the States to fight he'd be lost in a sea of more classy boxers and he'd lose his good-little-thing he's got going here in Aussie.

Mick, Other big names (read oversea fighters) don't know who Mundine is!! He doesn't promote himself overseas - cause he doesn't want to fight any real class fighters. He's a good local boxer - but not world class. He's a world class big mouth though! World class at shooting his mouth off before his brain knows what he's saying!

Full respect to Mundine for changing sports - few athletes are able to do it. He is also, for the beter part, a good advocate for indigenous people and children in general as he does not drink and leads an active lifestyle. The point I am making is that you cannot sit there and claim you are like Pacquiao and the best when you have never legitimately won a world title and repeatedly fail to make the weight for bouts. Mundine's best victory sas over Green, no question about that but any other time he has come against a top ranked fighter he has come up short. If Mundine wants to be a real champion then he needs to beat Pavlik. Plain and simple.

I think there are a lot of sour gripes here...Mundine dominated rugby league and then went on to have a successful boxing career, people criticise his opponents, but Mundine hasnt suffered too many losses. Maybe its to do with the amount of money the Man makes, and the fact he ended up going to a new sport and dominating it. How many other blokes in RL,RU,AFL, futbol could drop a sport and do what Mundine has done...I guess we will find out if Garth Wood ends up taking on the Man.

Green was well known in boxing circles long before Mundine showed up as he was a 2000 Olympian. Mundine is and always be an also ran. He got knocked out COLD by Ottke - a guy who is considered to have almost no knock-out punch (6 knock-outs in his career of 34 fights) and was unable to deal with Kessler or Siaca. Mundine has held interim and vacant belts - and aside from Geale (which on a re-count Mundine lost in a split points decision) has never actually won a world title. Green has beaten Stripe Dews for the WBA light heavyweight title and also won the IBO cruiserweight title - both legitimate world title fights. he then defended his title agianst Roy Jones Jnr who looked amazing against Jeff lacy - a quality fighter in his own right. Green gets in the ring and fights. Mundine stands at the dias talking and fighting bums.

Most people watch Mundine b/c they want to see him get knocked out which is a rela shame but he only has himself to blame after repeated comments about 9/11 and continually spitting in the faces of the Australian public and media. People are turning away from his fight in droves b/c they see that the talk and quality of fights do not match up. He fights bums. Plain and simple. Nice try at playing the race card but that simply does not cut it in this day and age, especially when some of Australia's and the worlds most popular sporting figures are indeed not white. Try and find someone who does not absolutely love Manny Pacquiao! Why - because he embraces people. And in case it slipped your memory - Mundine's mother is white!
