Will Jonathon Brown be singing My Fevola?

By Redb / Roar Guru

The 2010 AFL season is only two months away. The early talk has been of how two significant new partnerships are going to work.

First, how will Nathan Buckley cope with indomitable Mick Malthouse as Master and Assistant Coach at Collingwood, and how will Jonathon Brown put up with Brendan Fevola in his forward line.

Early media report suggests a bond has been created and the two are looking forward to sharing the forward 50 for the Brisbane Lions this year.

Brown’s former forward line compatriot was the unassuming low profile David Bradshaw. A workmanlike forward who contributes his 30 to 50 goals a year with minimal fuss. Bradshaw is now at the Swans and will serve them well.

Brendan Fevola is anything but unassuming: he’s a big, effusive and brash, a real talent when his head is on straight and easily one of the AFL’s best overhead contested marks.

Jonathon Brown is one of the AFL’s elite big forwards, a so-called power forward.

Fevola is in a similar vein.

I hope there is more than a bond on the field for the Lions sake as if they stop talking? Boom, crash, opera …

In early 2009 the AFL Footy Show did a parody of the Knack’s 1979 hit My Sharona for Brendan Fevola. Will Jono Brown be singing it by Round Two?

This is my version:
Ooh my little ugly one, ugly one.
When you gonna give me some space, Fevola?
You never seem to run, never run.
C’mon get out of my forward line, Fevola
Ya never gonna stop, give it up.
Such a silly mind. Always stuff it up for a touch
on the forward line. Why why why i yi woo. M M M My Fevola…

Come a little closer huh, ah will ya huh.
Close enough for me to punch you in the eyes, Fevola.
Keeping it in the 50 gets to me
Running down the length of the forward line, Fevola
Never gonna stop, give it up. Such a silly mind.
Always stuff it up for a touch
on the forward line. Why why why i yi woo. M M M My Fevola…

When you gonna give it to me, give it to me.
It is just a matter of time, Fevola
Is it just destiny, destiny?
Or is it just a game in my mind, Fevola?
Never gonna stop, give it up.
Such a silly mind. Always stuff it up for a touch
on the forward line. Why why why i yi woo. M M M My Fevola

I reckon J.Brown would be the best captain in the league for Fevola to have to knuckle down under, btw - yeah, Brownie is such an old fashioned bloke, he's brilliant, but, he really does seem one of those old fashioned country blokes who has it all pretty balanced. Whereas a Wayne Carey was a country kid who was a bit too wayward. Miles between - but, the irony is that Brownie idolised the Duck.

No doubt big interest in how they will go together. Maybe if Jono Brown plays near the 50 (true CHF)whilst Fev stays deep it will work?

You have more faith in than I do. The track record of behaviour of serial offenders in NRL and AFL is not good.

Fevola is no longer lord of the manor at Carlton. He was like a spolit brat at times and Carlton put up with him. No I think grog and off field issues will be minimal this year, I mean yes he's a dumb footballer but even he realises this is his last chance.

Really? Well his track record is pathetic and Carlton must have been thrilled to throw him at the Lions. And imagine how annoyed the Lions must have been when most, but only most, of the Crown episode was revealed the day he traded! Fevola is a bomb waiting to go off. Surely, Redb, you must have some doubts about this prominent AFL players ability to control himself given his past record? Surely!!!

yes, this will be interesting. Bradshaw was always able to play second fiddle, the Robin to the Batman, the Lions now have two Batmans.

I dont think grog will be a problem for Fevola this year.

Lions did well in recruiting and Michael Voss obviously has a plan. I rate him highly enough to wait and see before passing judgment.

A better verse and far more relevant could have been 'When you gonna drink beer with me Drink beer with me Or is it just a casket of wine Fevola?' Lets face it 'Its only a matter of time Fevola!'

Said it once and will say it again....I have never seen two star forwards operate well in the 50 long term.

Don't be surprised if these two are involved in one of those all too familiar 'footballers behaving badly' episodes ! I've seen the reports that they are getting on 'like a house on fire'. JB has been pretty clean till now, but he does have a larrikin air about him, and Fev of course is a master par excellence !
