Bulls rack up another half century

By AP / Wire

The Bulls racked up 50 points for the third time this season in thrashing the Highlanders 50-35 and reclaiming the lead in Super 14 rugby on Saturday.

Although they scored seven tries, the Bulls conceded five to the Highlanders.

Fullback Israel Dagg grabbed a hat-trick and kicked two conversions for a personal tally of 22 points.

But a pair of tries each for winger Francois Hougaard and No.8 Pierre Spies meant the Bulls were clear, especially after they opened out a 21-0 lead after 12 minutes, and led 36-14 at halftime.

Pots, now we know what you're doing wrong. You're meant to start drinking BEFORE the game starts!!! You NH blokes are so confused ... :) Bulls were better, but Higlanders kept it interesting. Chiefs v Crusaders was a cracker. Brumbies v Sharks a grind but still close. How about that England v Scotland game? woo-hoo. Exciting stuff ....

Ziggy is right. It was a boring game and I started to drink beer after the first 20 minutes. Scoring seven tries and conceeding five seems to be only thing to mention in this article. Boring Bulls Blowout Basketball Score. Again.

Temba, I was at the game and the atmosphere was , err, electric partly because of that first 20 minues and because of the approching thunderstorm. The wind became a problem, swirling around the stadium to such an extend that Morne Steyn even couldnt handle it at times. The Bulls relaxed noticebly once the bonus point was in the bank and started to make substitutions. The Highlanders had a good game but it's difficult at the best of times to play catch up against the Bulls who seem to pace themselves according to their opponents. I like the look of Flip van der Merwe, another big lock in the Bakkies mould and only 24 years old. They seem to have good depth in key positions and the game against the Stormers should be a classic.

Hope they print this. Since way back I think my contributions were 'lost in the mail' because I harped on about a certain gentleman's apparent anti SA bias. Good on you Jimmy! I also can't stand watching the Bulls play because they are so boring and may I say 'rough'. The cheek of punching an opponent back, for example. Then they were just downright mean in playing someone like Bakkies - he is obviously too big and tough and it's just plain unfair. So just as well he is out injured. Then that bloody winger had to be transferred because he was too fast. And anyhow all his tries were just intercepts or from chasing kicks. Again just not 'proper rugby'. When the old farts at the IRB have finally messed with rules enough we will end saying how amazing our game seems just like rugby league. Then the Ozzies will be happy.

I don’t really rate Steve Hoff and the song isn’t exactly top of the pops but its all part of the fun. If you go to Loftus for a game you get to feel what rugby spirit is made of. It’s something the Aussies wish to regain. People at Pretoria games are in love with the game and can you blame them? The Bulls cover such a wide skill set that they can play almost any game… Running Rugga with off loads that make me think I am watching a NZ team of about 4 years ago or structured games, even the boring the kick chase. They use these to dismantle their opponents, frustratingly numbing the opposition. People complain about the kick chase, yet everyone else has tried and failed at it. My only problem is that on games like Saturday they switched off after winning the match in the first 15 mins… this is not what champions do but then again if they were behind 20 points they kick into gear and bulldoze their way back. Is this perhaps a way of extending the players for a long season or avoiding injury? All I know is that I am very happy with the bulls of today, they set the standard not only for playing the game but for professionalism I cant wait to see if they carry this onto the road.

Jimmy, Where have you been mate? The only other excitement missing is Bakkies Botha! It's hard, fast rugby - maybe not so exciting to those not accustomed to it. Each to his own.

Its 5 weeks into the competition and those two sides at the top of the table while they deserve to be there, they haven't left the republic yet. The Bulls are odds on favourites to win this competition they have the sweetest possible draw anyone could ask for. the Stormers face exactly the same teams on the road so if they are not there finals time and lets get real thats all that matters their season can only be dubbed a failure. The Bulls have my money to host the final again this year. I think they may go unbeaten this year and match the Crusaders season 2002 except they (Bulls) would have played more matches so it would be slightly more impressive. then again Pre expansion I think the competition was a little more competitive

Ah those boring all-kicking Bulls. Can't run the ball, can't score tries.Remember how few they scored last year? Yes, I know they scored more of them than anyone else but they were just boring. And this year they have only managed 24 tries in 4 games. When will those South Africans ever learn to play proper rugby. Just ask Spiro.
