Wallabies Vs All Blacks Roar live blog

Join other Roar readers tonight from 7pm to discuss the Bledisloe Cup match between the All Blacks and the Wallabies. 2002 was the last time the Wallabies claimed the symbol of trans-Tasman rugby supremacy, but the current outfit is in danger of sinking to the worst Bledisloe losing streak in 63 years.

Since Robbie Deans led his adopted nation to a first-up 34-19 victory in 2008, they have tasted defeat in the past seven Tests. More damning is the painful fact Australia were leading at halftime in five of those contests.

The leads were never huge, the biggest was nine points, but Deans’ men took their feet off All Black throats. They allowed their arch-rivals to claw their way back, rediscover some confidence, and the men in gold suffered the consequences.

Kickoff: 8pm

Australia: Adam Ashley Cooper, James O’Connor, Rob Horne, Berrick Barnes, Drew Mitchell, Matt Giteau, Will Genia, Richard Brown, David Pocock, Rocky Elsom (capt), Nathan Sharpe, Dean Mumm, Salesi Maafu, Stephen Moore, Benn Robinson. Res: Saia Faingaa, James Slipper, Rob Simmons, Matt Hodgson, Luke Burgess, Anthony Faingaa, Kurtley Beale.

New Zealand: Mils Muliaina, Cory Jane, Conrad Smith, Ma’a Nonu, Joe Rokocoko, Dan Carter, Jimmy Cowan, Kieran Read, Richie McCaw (capt), Jerome Kaino, Tom Donnelly, Brad Thorn, Owen Franks, Keven Mealamu, Tony Woodcock. Res: Corey Flynn, Ben Franks, Sam Whitelock, Victor Vito, Piri Weepu, Aaron Cruden, Israel Dagg.

The problem with foul system (eg soccer / Basketball / other) is that it allows dirty players to stay on the field even if they committ blatent professional fouls - there is nothing wrong with the rules just there engforcement - Joubert has always been quick to whistle and stamp his authority on the game as a result he stuffed up - I will be interested to read Paddys ref report

I think most AB supporters would agree that Pocock had a great game, I would love to have him on AB team - that said he still had a lot to learn about support play (a good example being Richie's try)

Mungo, hard to win with 14 men on field - WBs played well ABs deserved the Win - Joubert (as per usual) had a disproportionate influence on the game

Unmm, I think you forgot the words Kiwi Commentators are not biased compared to the Australian Commentators -kind of like comparing Hitler to Gengis Khan and saying well he killed a few people but...... The BBC feed offers much more balanced commentary than Aus (the worst) or Kiwi (OK but still biased) - I suspect it is because they have to satisfy Welsh Scots and English so just try to call the game

The forwards were generally getting dominated at the ruck collision. I saw a few Wallabies gang tackle an All Black and drive them back, but by and large the NZ pack were making easy inroads. It's not like the Wallaby pack was any less vulnerable with the missing players in it when they were available. Realistically, Robinson, Moore, Sharpe, Elsom and Pocock are always going to start, so up front we're talking about Horwill and Palu. Palu is erratic and Horwill last had a standout season (for various reasons) in 2008. I think it verges on blind faith to suggest that three non-world class forwards are going to improve areas that were as weak when they had been fit. The scrum was OK in the sense that neither side had ascendcy, but the Wallaby pack did seem to lose their concentration on about two scrums. Oddly enough I can't recall the lineout. The less said about the re-starts the better. There's no excuse for that. It's as if they hadn't even practiced them. Jim Williams needs to get busy asap. The backs were poor... again, which makes me wonder what the coaches have been doing for the past three seasons? There's no cohesiveness whatsoever. The team seems pre-programmed as Sam T noted elsewhere. The defence is still shaky and as Brett McKay has said on occasions, there was no idication that the back three were working as a unit. In that sense what does it matter whose injured? Ioane is a wonderfull carrier, but he's not suddenly going to take ownership of a group that is malfunctioning. The team that started today had enough experience and talent to be better than it was. The entire team seems still to be relying entirely on Giteau breaking or AAC fending somebody off. What the hell is going on?!

AND Cooper, Ioane, Chambers and Davis. The forwards stood up ok it was the backs who ere poor, all the tries and breaks in the backs and poor options and poor kicking. Only restarts were where forwards failed. Lineout, scrums ruck all ok.

Well this result puts the game against Ireland into perspective. 7 tries in a Bledisloe match is some scoreline. New Zealand are routing everyone out of sight this season. Wonder what SA fans are going to say now about refs? Joubert will probably get a standing ovation for yellow-carding an All Black.

Wallabies beaten by a better team on the day. I thought the Aussies showed some ticker in the second half when down to 14. The score could have blown out badly. Elsom, Brown, Pocock, in fact they all gave it everything they had. Bigger picture, historically NZ rugby has lifted Australian rugby by playing them. I'm starting to wonder if the constant beatings at S14 and Bledisloe will start to damage the game in Australia moving forward (thanks Julia) - the outcome of increased Trans Tasman competition may be the opposite of what was intended. This one way traffic can hardly be inspiring to supporters... and three more Bledisloes this year! The build up to todays match was great. How will the enthusiasm be by game 4?

I don't think they would gave tonight....the real issue is the mistakes and indiscipline in the backs....just stupid errors from cooper last week the barnes and then mitchel...they act like spoilt children. JOC and genoa are the professionals. It's very disappointing and deans needs to get at these guys well before h ing to make an exams. Ben S I think your right there us some thing wrong from the top down.

Seriously how many 50-50 calls go the ABs way? I'll be happy to watch them fall next year at home. Call me bitter but show me some stats to state otherwise.

Oh right, if the IRB are trying to sanitise the game before the world cup next year it will take a lot of the physical contest out of the contact which is going overboard. Didn't even see what Mitchell's first sinbin offence was for.

Of course not, I was being sarcastic but that what Joubert said no arms. This amongst other reasons I thought Joubert favoured the Wallabies, the first yellow card was a joke. The second was the touchie not Joubert and he got it wrong as well IMO.

they put Him down safely. No way should they be cited. Its a joke what the refs with yellow cards for first offences on these are doing and then suspensions make it worse. I am all for MORE yellow cards but for cynical cheating and repeated infringements especially in the 22. Not for mildly dangerous tackles, it is a collision contact sport after all.

Peter did you think that Owen Franks tackle on Richard Brown was a shoulder charge?

OJ, since when did Fox Sports commentators become knowledgeable about the game, ha ha? It may not have been noticeable on TV but there was space behind the All Blacks to exploit when the Wallabies were trying to run it out of their 22 and half. Guess you could argue that Carter's restarts were also an effective weapon for the All Blacks as they always got the ball back.

Ball in hand is still the better way to go. Most penalties were against the defending team. Sure kicking has its place. The game for all its running was good to watch. Yellow cards for every dangerous tackle is stupid, first spear tackles and now shouldercharges. Next head high tackles. Also to be consistent the 2 shoulder charges should be cited and suspended for 2 weeks.
