A bolter for the 2026 World Cup? Antarctica!

By Michael Turner / Roar Pro

In a stunning new revelation, it has been announced via popular social networking site Facebook that the Antarctic Continent will be bidding for the World Football’s showpiece event for 2026. They are adopting the slogan: “If Qatar can do it, the Antarctic can, too.”

The decision was announced via Facebook in order to prove to the World that the Antarctic people were down to earth, and the bid was for “The People”.

Antarctica 2026: “Play it Cool”

Antarctica boasts the only IceRoots program in the World, and they have adopted the World Game as the national sport of the continent. The Bid team however are worried that FIFA will award the competition in 2026 to rivals the Arctic.

Pauly the Penguin is officially the bid team’s mascot, boasting the continent’s famous wildlife and flora to be the centrepiece of a spectacular tournament.

The Bid team has already begun on the bid book for the bidding process, with 9 areas specified as host cities. Within the New Zealand Claim zone is a stadium next to the iconic Ross Sea and its ice shelf, in the Scott and McMurdo Research bases.

The South Pole will host the Grand Final, and will also boast a FIFA Fan Zone. The Peninsula adjacent to the Weddell Sea will boast three host cities, with Esperanza, Veradsky and Rothera all playing home to matches, with the first to also be a FIFA Fan Zone.

German Research Base of Neumayer will host several matches and a FIFA Fan Zone, as will the Australian base of Casey. The South Magnetic Pole will host a FIFA Fan Zone. The final ground listed within the bid book is the Australian base of Mawson.

The Antarctic National team seem excited at the prospect of playing in the FIFA World Cup, as previous qualification attempts have been thwarted as the continent has not been allocated a World Cup qualification place.

Previous attempts to join Oceania have been stopped by FIFA, despite calls for liberation of the two continents to provide fans with a greater experience.

Antarctica claim that alcohol is legalised, and will be subsided for the tournament. Transport and accommodation will be no problem, however more details will be provided with more of the bid book to be published at a later date.

“This is a great chance for FIFA to conquer all earthly frontiers” claims the bid team. Antarctica’s only previous taste of football on the continent was the filming of the Castrol Ad. The team also boasts the glowing recommendation of Cristiano Ronaldo, who says “football takes me many places… hot places… cold places…”

The bid team states that Cristiano Ronaldo had a high opinion of the local stadia and the standard of the local league, the P-League, sponsored by Penguin Books.

Before you sledge, I know this is not real. But let’s add a light hearted view of the World Cup judging by the attitudes as of late toward the governing body. Who knows, maybe we could start a movement.

according to the Wikipedia page regarding world cup hosts, it seems that they have already given them the hosting duties for 2026. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FIFA_World_Cup_hosts#Voting_Results Incredible...

I'm certain the bid presentation features a polar bear stealing the cup. Damn bears! Did you know Biggles visited Antarctica?

HA HA HA! I'm so proud of this article! I designed Pauly the Penguin, and organised the stadia map and FIFA Fan Zone layout!! Now, all we need to do is get FIFA's backing by promising them US$50 billion in natural resources. That should do the trick ;)

With FIFA giving Qatar the 2022 World Cup, a country completely unsuitable for the World Cup, then why not give Antarctica the World Cup as well? Like Qatar, Antarctica has: - no footballing culture and have not qualified for the world cup before - terrible climate for fans. Where Antarctica bidding for the World Cup would be better: - They have more recreational activities for fans when they aren't watching games - Penguins - Actual tourist attractions - Antarctica opens up an even less known area to football than the Middle East - No need for air conditioned stadiums - Alcohol is legal I think - Women could dress in what they want - Antarctica is in every time zone and thus keep every country happy. Where Qatar's bid is better: - Have many rich people who have gained their fortune to help make the bid and bribe FIFA officials. So Antarctica would have a better bid than Qatar if they got wealthy backing! If Qatar 2022 became a reality lets make Antarctica 2026 a reality as well :D And as Michael Skilbeck said- its the perfect place to cool off after Qatar! http://www.facebook.com/pages/Antarctica-2026-World-Cup-Bid/121922804539244 http://www.facebook.com/pages/Support-Antarcticas-2026-FIFA-World-Cup-Bid/132603600130974?ref=share
