Brendan Fevola booted from Crown Casino

By Tristan Rayner / Editor

Has the time finally come for Brendan Fevola to step out of the public spotlight to face his personal issues? The troubled former AFL star was asked to leave Crown Casino this morning after being seen by Crown staff playing poker.

A spokesman for Crown, Gary O’Neill, told the Herald Sun:

“As soon as Crown was made aware that Brendan Fevola was in the poker room, he was approached by a responsible gaming liaison officer”

“And he was told: ‘In the circumstances Mr Fevola, Crown believes that it would be better for you not to be on the gaming floor’. He understood the point we were making and he left of his own volition.”

Mr O’Neill said Fevola was not banned and had never been banned from the complex, but the company was adhering to its own gambling policies with Fevola having well-publicised problems.

Fevola has been paid to appear on tonight’s Footy Show and will apparently give a wide-ranging interview.

Can Fevola find a path back from his problems?

I don't know Andrew! Fev's problems regarding booze, gambling and depression have been well documented and he has stated he want's to overcome them and return to the AFL. I realize you are saying that sports people should be allowed some degree of privacy but visiting a casino, when you know the media are trailing you everywhere, does not seem to me to be a wise decision. (Not that Fevola is renowned for making wise decisions.) I think use of the word "booted" conjures images of something that did not happen and is in poor taste.

The way that I understand this piece is, is that Fev was minding his own business playing some poker and they told him to leave. I understand Fev's problems with gambling and fully back the casino asking him to leave, but why the hell is this news! This should even be talked about to be honest. Fev went there obviously for a gamble, the casino, looking out for there own back and understandably Fevs, didn't want anything to do with him. Nothing happened at all. He dind't get kicked out for aproarious behaviour or anything of the sort. So why on earth is this news. I'm sick of the media throwing up matters like this when it comes to any sports men.
