What I want from our football leaders

By The Crowd / Roar Guru

What do I want from FFA leadership? It’s a simple question with, I think, a somewhat simple answer. However, sometimes the simple things are the hardest to achieve.

I want FFA to lead and inspire the football family with vision and detail a clear strategy on how to move forward. Be pro-active rather than reactive.

Finally, I want stable management.

The biggest disappointment with the current FFA management style is the reactive nature of its communication processes, and I guess a fear – as I see it – of issuing a strategic plan for us to support and get behind.

To finish on a high, many FFA decisions have been excellent: the new coach, the training camp, a match against Germany, the recent football forums around Australia, to name but a few.

However, the insular way things are done by FFA normally go unnoticed, and therein lies such a major part of the breakdown in FFA’s communication processes.

Brisbane Roar CEO Peter McLennan will leave the club at the end of April... Ben Buckley has done it again----a leading young bright Administrative Talent sack from his CEO post---as the FFA take control of the ROAR... I believe the new appointment is ex Brisbane Lions Aussie Rules man.. What on earth are you doing Ben?

Here is David Lettermans Top 10 on how "FFA need to show more leadership" ............on a more serious note 10. FFA should try to get an new owner in to replace Clive Palmer. Hopefully that new owner would do similar things to what Nathan Tinkler is doing at the jets 9. Get a new owner for the roar 8. keep an eye out for wellington phoenix with their owner 7. Go to townsiville, engage in community, work with QFA and figure a way on how a nth qld team would come back in to the A-league 6. Have a membership drive- how to turn registered players into members 5. help sydney fc engage in the community and get better crowds 4. have a decent playing schedule 3. FFA should try to convince all clubs to follow the mariners lead and build a complex/academy 2. all a-league clubs should have a networking relationship with their respective state FAs 1. find new revenue streams

Agreed AF, the atmosphere the active support is good for the team, and good for football. Similar to yourself, I'm a wing sitter, and sit with my friends and family. We always appreciate the atmosphere generated by the NT. Hence, I continue to be surprised by the attitude towards the NT.

AF You make an interesting point do you stop supporting your club because of some management decisions or do you actively work towards fixing those management decisions.... Touch call which way to go if you are really really really annoyed

Actually Roger and Con---there are quite a few security more then seem necessary around the Beach boys and gals that I have noticed. The only time some were evicted was when they defied an order to stop assembling around behind the goal when the 5k cap was first introduced. But they lobbied and negotiated for a section right behind the goal at the home end and are now allowed to support the team from there. They seem to be satisfied with that and have behaved immaculately ever since. There is certainly no angst with security nor police who surround them as far as I can see now---all seem to be getting along fabulously. I'm a senior who sits in the western stand with family members---we enjoy the atmosphere they create---it's good for the team and for Australian Football.

As I understand Con, MV was fully supportive of the measures taken. Were they not? Regardless, I certainly don't ever recall them standing up for the fans in any way, shape, or form.

roger, unless you know something i dont, mvfc didnt turn against its own fans. security measures are set by ffa using the guidance of an anti terrorism consultancy called hatamoto. mvfc has to obey by what their told

Definitely have a great feeling about Holger Osieck, he's going to take the national team far and hopefully bring the domestic comp with him.

Good points AF. However, I think there is a distinct difference between GCU and MV. MV has actively and intentionally turned against its fans, while GCU is only accidentally doing it due to poor management. If it were as simple as poor management, fine, we can live with that. It becomes a problem however when they turn around and actively attempt to marginalise the fans. Are the beach boys surrounded by police? Do the police eject people for taking off their shirt? Do they try and confiscate new lyrics to new songs? Do they come and confiscate banners for no real reason?

Well all I can to say Roger we faithful 2+K GCU supporters would kill to have the support you guys have... Opps shouldn't mention the word "kill" we may get an extra 200 security officers at our home games----that's one way we could boost our crowd averages I guess. However, our Beach Boys do a marvelous job (about forty of them) in supporting our guys on the field and if I was 30 years younger I would be right there with them----they don't complain on blogs---they just keep turning up every home game.

P.S - to clarify, I'm not actually an NT supporter. But as far as I'm concerned, if the NT don't chant, there's little point going to matches.

GCU? Good on you AF. Not speaking for Con, but for myself, it's hard to support a club that seems to be both non-appreciative and actively working to get rid of you. Of course I’ll continue to attend some games, but if they stifle the atmosphere, then half the reason for attending games is gone.

Clubs have to take some responsibility with the AFC report too. How many ALeague club administrators have read the AFC criteria? It's not a secret document, I read it years ago when it first came out. There are criteria in there that both Leagues and Clubs need to meet. It is the pinnacle competition for Asian clubs therefore each club should be striving to at least meet the standards set out in it. I think the FFA can be overly critcised, particularly from some journalists who seem to have hidden agenda or conflicts of interest. The FFA have made some bad decisions, some of them have proven to be bad only because we now have the benefit of hindsight. But they've made some very good decisions as well. I have faith that if they learn from their mistakes with expansion; the criteria they've set for new ALeague teams; and marketing and fan relations that the ALeague and Aussie Football in general will be flourishing in the next 5-10 years. There's also mention every so often of how to bring back the old clubs through either the FFA cup or their own ambitions to play in the highest league again. We need to recognise the contribution of those clubs but personally I don't think they belong in our top league in the near to mid future. Of those clubs that do have high ambitions, how many of their administrators have read the AFC criteria?

Con----does this mean you will not attend anymore HAL games at all...? Really mate; I'm a GCU supporter---I have only missed two home games in our two year history (it's been tough going at times). I will be buying another membership next year.. Why do some of you Melb Victory supporters think you are all so precious above all others?
