What a difference a year (or two) makes

By - Cardoo / Roar Rookie

I was unfortunate enough to watch the Gold Coast Suns get hammered on Saturday night. A couple of things stood out for me: the Suns were hopelessly outclassed, they used far too much handballs, and Robert Walls does not like Jared Brennan.

As it turns out, Fox Sports replayed the 2007 classic between Brisbane and Collingwood today, in which Brennan played a brilliant game kicking seven goals, five points.

I couldn’t help noticing the difference in the way Walls talked about Brennan, saying he was a brilliant player and champion in the making.

On Saturday Walls said things like, “Brennan is one of the few players I know who make the easy look difficult,” and generally bagged him every time he got near the ball.

Okay, he didn’t have a great game last week, but I believe Jared to be a pretty good player and not deserving of a bagging by a failed coach turned commentator.

Anyone have any idea why this animosity for Jared Brennan by Robert Walls has eventuated?

Walls a failed coach? Interesting call. I'm not sure how long Walls has had an issue with Brennan but, like many of us, I think he is disappointed in his inability to live up to the talent that he exhibited in that 2007 game you highlighted. He has been signed to the Suns as a big name player and needs to play to that ranking.

He's been playing pretty arrogant football lately. Often I see him fumbling the ball when he goes to pick it up with one hand. And when he does pick it up, he uses the other to give the 'dont argue'. When he does that, he doesn't have a free hand to handball the ball away so he just turns the ball over. Leigh Matthews wouldn't have tolerated it.
