Titans lure Rogers out of retirement

By News / Wire

Dual international Mat Rogers has confirmed he is coming out of retirement to play the remainder of the NRL season with Gold Coast. Rogers confirmed speculation the Titans had registered his playing contract with the NRL just days before the June 30 deadline.

The 35-year-old, who retired at the end of last season, said he badly wanted to help the struggling side, which is languishing at the foot of the competition ladder.

“Why? I love the team and I hate seeing them hurting and the fans hurting I know they’re better than that and I want to help,” Rogers, a veteran of 199 NRL games, said via his Twitter account.

“It’s not about me being a saviour or any of that rubbish, some of my best mates are there and as a huge Titan fan, they asked and I obliged.

“It will be just the remainder of this season.”

Rogers could return for the Titans as soon as their clash with the Warriors in Auckland on Friday week.

Sitting at the bottom of the table after poor recruitment and development, they sign some big names for next year. This doesn't seem to motivate existing stock who still continue to play like they're filling in time till they get replaced. Carty steps down from Origin duty, this still doesn't help. Last weekend they lost the battle of the crowds to the Suns. Call to the Rat. Wonder if Matt Elliot will come to the coast next year. -- Comment left via The Roar's iPhone app. Download The Roar's iPhone App in the App Store here.

Get rid of Tagateese and then he helps Cronulla flog the Titans although there may be other issues in that decision- now bring back Rogers -sheesh talk of desperation..

Mals, the biggest, well one of the biggest mistakes the NRL made was putting the Coast in ahead of another Brisbane team. Even now a second Brisbane team will cause the Coast more problems if they dont get their act together next year. The Titans need to be a super club, the most feared team in the comp, Carty had better start making the right decisions or he will be turfed out of Queensland head first. The coast is a tuff market, its great to have expat Victorians to hold up the Suns, but Queenslanders love to party, love their holidays and nothing short of a winning team will get them off the beach. So the Titans have to beceom a winning team, or they will become a club on life support. This is queensland, not Melbourne, where the sun shines even in winter. We need a good excuse to turn up to the footy, winning is that excuse. Sounds brutal, but it is very true.

Titans have lacked a good back who can creat and exploit. Preston isn't creating much anymore, and there are no centres that are doing anything much for them. They are in trouble this year, after making the finals last year didn't they? A bit like the Roosters, only you get the feeling the Roosters could come good still.

Sooo the club is on life support because the NSWelshman Cartwright is coach eh?? There is alot more to it than that Oikee! Introduction of the GC Suns, cost of match tickets, cost of food & beverage in the stadium to name a few. I thought you QLDers could not get enough of league, the blogger QGIRL was proposing 7 Queensland teams in a revised NRL comp only yesterday, what a joke!!

Which begs to answer my question from the other day, why was he not replaced, they knew he was retiring, now they realise what a blunder they have made. Plus they are now losing Tomane the centre, this club is on life support, Gallop, the coast needs you, another NSW dinosaur has (Carty) stuffed it up again. Not to mention Tagetesi has jumped ship.
