UFC 132: Time to see Faber in the Octagon

By Cookie / Roar Rookie

UFC has put together a stacked card for UFC 132and despite the BJ Penn vs Jon Fitch match being scratched, the card holds some very entertaining fights, featuring the bantam-weight title fight between Urijay Faber and Dominick Cruz.

I am really excited to see Faber in action in the main event.

The ‘California Kid’ was a fan favourite in the WEC and is set to bring this to the UFC.

Since losing to featherweight title holder, Jose Aldo, Urijah has dropped to the bantam-weight division and is now fighting Dominick Cruz for the title, a fighter he has previously beaten.

I also cannot wait to see Ryan Bader (TUF 8 winner) back in action.

As stated on his website, he was very disappointed with his effort against Jon Jones and is hot favourite to get back in the winners circle when he faces former light heavyweight champion Tito Ortiz (who should have retired three years ago).

Of course, we cannot go past George Sotiropoulos in his match-up against Dos Anjos. The Australian wants to get back into the title hunt after losing to Dennis Siver in Sydney.

Dos Anjos has the same thing on his mind after losing to number one contender Clay Guida in his last fight. This is set to be a battle on the ground, with both being superior BJJ artists. But I do see Sots finishing the fight.

The guy is just so motivated.

Another fight that is of interest is the return of MMA legend Wanderlei (The Axe Murderer) Silva against Chris Leben.

Everyone thinks Silva is too old for it, but I can see this being a bloody war with both fighters staying in the pocket and banging. This is my tip for fight of the night.

Last but not least, catch Melvin Guillard in action. After moving to Greg Jackson’s gym in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Melvin has gone 4 and 0 and will be in serious title contention if he can put away Shane Roller.

Fight Predictions:
Urijah Faber to beat Dominick Cruz by submission
Wanderlei Silva to beat Chris Leben by decision
Ryan Bader to beat Tito Ortiz by TKO
Melvin Guillard to beat Shane Roller by KO
George Sotiropoulos to beat Rafael Dos Anjos by submission

I can't say I have any problem with them putting Silva on the card, but they've now added Ortiz as well. There should be a balance between getting the guys who drive PPV numbers like Silva and developing the next crop of fighters to come through. UFC is sorely lacking in balance between the fighters that are drawcards and the technically oriented fighters that the Japanese organisations like Pride developed. There's way too many wild brawls and the rule that allows elbows to the head favours the low skilled big burly types that push their opponents against the cage and jab them with elbows. The situation where UFC is the main monopoly now is severely holding the sport of MMA back. This Ultimate Fighter show - good god - where did they find the ice blocks that these cave men were thawed out of? The Noughties were great for the UFC in that they didn't have the money to draw in the types that are emerging over the past couple of years. They just solidly focussed on college educated and well spoken wrestlers to pad out their roster. Now we have bozos that really should be muscle for low level drug dealers. Where are you Pride???!

It was originally a rematch between BJ Penn and Jon Fitch, they fought to a draw in Sydney @ UFC 127. The winner was meant to be the number one contender for the Welterweight belt. Both fighters suffered injuries about a 2 months ago

what was the proposed main event fight for this card? Cant wait to see the "Axe Murderer" back in action, he was my favourite when i first started watching MMA about 10 years ago. he was, and still is i guess, a scary scary man!
