Ben Daley 7 - Considering how strong the Crusaders are at scrummaging, he didn't do bad. Saia Faingaa 8 - He's aggression in defense is what the Reds needed more of, because they were completely out muscled. James Horwill 8.5 - He was punished for poor tackling grip with extra metres gained for the Crusaders. But he's led from the front all season and it's amazing to see how passionate he is about the game. Well done Big Kev. Rob Simmons 8 - Lovely should-of-been-try! And he pretty much out sprinted Zac Guilford to the try line! Scott Higginbotham 9 - The Reds really suffered from field possession. But on two occasions, Higgers grubbered into a vacant space in the corner of the Crusaders half. Beau Robinson 7.5 - He seemed a bit quiet. Liam Gill fixed that up when he came on by being a pig at the break down. Radike Samo 8 - He had lazy hands and poor discipline closer to the end of the match. You could really see at the end of the match that he was disappointed. Will Genia 9.5 - Nice quick ball and great vision. You could see that the Crusaders' heavy rucking affected Sanchez. But that was the forwards' fault. You can see the perpouse of the box kicks; to keep the Crusaders down in their territory; but he isn't very good at it under pressure. So what he needed to do is to let the forwards resume hitting up until an opportunity raised. Quade Cooper 9.5 - I don't know what he was thinking when he let Dan-the-Man come around underneath the posts. He used his width well and his kicks weren't bad. But I think he should have realized that Carter was completely dominating him in the kick-a-thon moment of the game and he should have opted for more attack. But otherwise, his balance of option taking for the Reds was perfect. Digby Ioane 9 - I have to admit, he was a bit unlucky with that bounce but he should have opted for the kick or the hands a bit later. He's strength and step was valuable that night. Nice work. Ben Tapuai 8 - Wow! Lovely game saving tackle! I find that driving with the legs is a serious lack of use when most players tackle. There are occasions when the tackle should be a big hit that drives him back 5 metres. But Ben Tapuai really drives with his legs. Anthony Faingaa 8 - As usual, a special mention to his defense. Rod Davies 7.5 - I reckon he didn't go hunting for the ball enough. Jono Lance 7 - This bloke doesn't muck around. He's not afraid to kick or hit the ball up. I hope to see more of him next year. Very entertaining game from the sevens specialist.

The centres were superb - faultless in defence and they came very close a few times, Tapui in particualr, to making breaks. Tapui has showed us he is a strong attacker as well as a reliable defender. Yes harsh on Digby - watched the replay last night and he was unlucky to get a bad bounce in the 5th minute chasing Quade's kick, if he would have gathered you would have had to back him to do the big step past the remaining defender and score, as he did (big step and score) in the 2nd half.

Well justified ratings. I possibly would have given Tapuai a 9, also A. Faingaa a 9 on their defence alone, and another half point to Ioane. However, happy with your scoring overall, Harry.

How can you have this guy say Genia 'in the semi almost lost the game' and reply with 'fair enough'. If Genia 'almost lost the game', then the Waratahs 'only just lost to the Blues' the previous week. Both statements are absurd.

Daly 8 - strong defence and busy around the park. S.Faingaa 8 - ditto. Special plaudits for getting the lineout throws right when it really, really counted Hanson 7.5 - thought the scrum problems really began when he came on. Surprising, as i thought he was a better scrummager than Faingaa. Would be interested to hear FOS and others views on this. Holmes 8.5 - Agree with all the above posters, and not your score PK. Great game and so pleasing to see this fella get his winners cup after sticking at the Reds through the bad times. Pity that Hardman, John Roe, David Croft and others who never gave up during the lean years couldn't get recognition as well. Simmons 8.5 - great game from this young star. Showed he's up to test standard. Horwill 9.5 - Led from the front and outplayed the standard for secondrow hardmen, Brad Thorn. Higginbotham 9 - Didn't shirk his hard work and excellent out wide. Samo 8.5 - Stayed the course Robinson 8 - Was first to most of the breakdowns and deserved a few penalties/turnovers but referee lawrence was determined not to blow. Genia 8.5 - Was below par and made mistakes until Winning the Super Rugby Championship with a Brilliant Individual Try. Like Horan, just has the look of a champion. Cooper 8 - No moments of genius, but still good and Queensland still won. He can save the magic for another big day, they will come. Tapui 8- Great game A. Faingaa 8 - ditto R Davies 7.5 - quiet and I thought he might have done his hammy again early in the 2nd half. Dod nothing wrong. Ioane 8 - Took his chance after an unlucky bounce in the 1st half and a fumble or two. Lance 9 - Fantastic display really considering it was only his 4th game and he was rock solid. Gill 8 - Again, incredible that this guy comes on and matches it with one of the best 7's of all time.... in a final! AWH 8 - real impact in defence and rock solid at lineouts.

he didnt score a game breaking 65 metre try from no where. In the final he was the difference in the semi he almost lost the game. In the semi he kicked away possession all game, in the final he just kicked poorly in the 1st half. I dont look at just 1 aspect I look at all they do , with an extra weighting to their primary duties / responsibilities.

I don't understand how you gave Genia an 8 this week, yet you gave him a 3 last week. If anything, his kicking was worse this week (which was the reason that you gave for giving him a 3 last week).

I'd give Ben Tapuai a 9.5 and Ioane a 9.5. He only did one thing wrong once the whole match. I'd give Anthony Faingaa 9.8 for his incredible defence. Up and Unders are useful sometimes. Remember how the Boks used them in 2009? And Fourie du Preeze was nominated to the IRB players of the year?

see my point re Holmes below. I dont care if it was his best performance or against a good scrum , the fact was quite a few tighthead scrums were lost, he lost the battle. No I gave Genia an 8 not a 9. Yes Horwill was my MoM. Genia had 2 halves a poor first half and a great 2nd half I rated him a 6 and a 10 for the halves thus an 8.

The reds had quite a few turnovers in the scrum, it was wheeled 90 degrees. It was through the tighthead. The scrum was Holmes main responsibility, IMO he was the weak link in the scrum and hence the score. I dont care if he did as well as any other prop against the crusaders, I marked down the NSW props against them as well despite them performing better in the scrum. I did make a mistake and gave Simmons an 8 for his lineout work and the try that the ref got wrong, that was a mistake in posting.

PK I agree with the above posters regarding G Holmes. Without his Personal Best performance, the Reds scrum would have been a disaster. Strange that both you and I complaint about Genia's useless up and under kicks, but somehow you still think that he deserved a 9. The whole team deserves 8, everyone of them were playing beyond themselves. Notable exception is Horwill who deserved a 10, and Lance maybe a 6. Horwill is looking more and more like what Brad Thorn is to the ABs.

Holmes is not a THP. He was asked to step up, due to Slipper's injury, in the semi and final. He did his scrummaging job well enough to allow enough clean ball. That was his objective - he more than passed the task he was given. The reds scrum was not smashed in the way the Stormers was a week earlier. Holmes and Daley were not as dominant as O Franks and Crockett, but they performed better than Blauw and Harris. He went the full 80 mins in the loose and joined in the general ruck side-entry and offside "pillar" defence play that both sets of forwards had great fun with at every breakdown. Daley topped the tackle count. Simmons was better than the week before and very good at LO time. No REDS player deserves a low score; imho no "poor" performances - even QC deserves at least a pass :) Come on Pete, what's next? Your form Wallaby team?

Yeah, I think Holmes did fine - as well as any other THP has done against the Cru all season. He held up the scrum pretty well, got a penalty out of Crockett, and then got stepped around when Crockett broke his bind (illegally) twice, which is reasonably difficult to counter. Remember, this Reds scrum was supposed to get smashed, like it has been supposed to all year, and has done OK. To a man the Reds played well.

Why the low score for Holmes? I also thought Simmons deserved a high score - 8.5 - He stole some lineouts, busy in general play and was unlucky not to get that try after individual brilliance fending off and outpacing Guilford for 45 m. Reminded me of Eales.
