Haumono's revelation raises questions

By Hoy / Roar Guru

There was a very interesting article in the Sydney Morning Herald yesterday. Solomon Haumono has come clean after 13 years of everyone believing he went AWOL chasing “the pleasure machine” Gabrielle Richens.

He has admitted it was all a ploy set up by he and Mundine to escape a contract with the Bulldogs.

Combined with the Sonny Bill Williams incident, the Bulldogs have now been the victim of two blokes doing a runner on their contract. Both times, Mundine has been involved.

What has he got against them? Or would he do it to any club?

And who does he think he is to get involved with contract breaking?

I am not a fan of Mudine, however this article raises even more concerns I have about those other sports stars in the stable of Mundine’s manager, Koda Nasser.

It seems where there is one, there is the other, and they likely have opinions that they can impart upon others to influence them.

It makes you wonder what plans have they got in store for Sonny Bill Williams, and Quade Cooper? Are they only signing up for one-year deals so they can both come up for a pair deal when the NRL salary cap increases?

I am sure other management teams have their sports stars getting together often, however when these blokes all get together to play poker, it makes me very nervous about what is going to come out of it all.

And now with Mundine's Tweet on Saturday to Sonny Bill. It is amazing.

I think Gallop is a great manager. He knows how to deal with crisis effectively and quickly, even the Melbourne Storm saga (albeit harsh, it was effective and quick). I don't think he is the greatest leader, but definitely a great manager. I would move him into an office that deals solely with crises and the like, put in a CEO who can look to the future and be a bit more optimistic than our normal Rugby League bred pessimism. The IC is not necessarily going to bring about forward thinking, but hopefully I am wrong. The IC needs Gallop, not to run the NRL but to manage it. The NRL needs to expand its horizons and also keep it's strengths. Gallop is good at knowing the NRL's strengths and for that reason I would keep him to nurture the NRL as it is. The expansion clubs need someone else other than Gallop, but the current clubs need Gallop.

It seemed implausible at the time and possibly turned out to be so. What would Richens take up with a so so NRL player in Australia...Mundine - nothing to see here folks...

What the hell did any of these guys do in league? Did they respect the game and its members, clubs and values? All of them have been replaced and the game is much better without them. This article is nothing more than sly self promotion. Another article with Mundine's name in it. -- Comment left via The Roar's iPhone app. Download The Roar's iPhone App in the App Store here.

Absolutely agree. Though it is a weird set of values and contradictions. SBW moves where the money is, without any loyalty to the Crusaders and yet gives vast amounts of proceeds from his fights to the Christchurch relief funds. Anthony Mundine always trumpets respect, but actively evades contractual discipline. I agree that Gallop has run this race well. If you have finite funds, people without loyalty must be encouraged to leave if they cross the fiscal line. I find the current salary debates in EPL (and Kewell with Melbourne Victory for that matter) to be obscene.Money is everything for these guys.

Seems like Cooper and Sonny are doing pretty good now. They are both stars in union. The last thing the NRL should do is sign either of them. They are union players, not league players. Our game is producing our own talent without the guys just chasing the dollar. I think it is better to let these players go to other codes rather than bend over backwards to keep them. Look, not long ago i was peed off about losing some of our best players, now i think Gallop has got it right, let them go if they can make big money elsewhere, and their loyalty is on the line, so at least we know straight off that these guys have no loyalty. Better to find out early. All the players are replacable, they have all been replaced by Gen Y. I dont even want to see them come back to our code, the game is more exciting now than when they were playing anyhow. I am glad Gallop held his nerve on this code hopping, rugby league players are getting bigger and stronger year by year. Having said that, it seems to be the smaller guys dominating our highlights packages. Thurston, Bowen, Slater, Cronk, Smith, Locke, Johnson and others. These are the players with stamina and speed that people are turning up to watch. So Gallop has it spot on.

Completely agree Al. Mundine uses RL to promote his fights and ch9 fall for it every time, they should tell him where to go but sadly, ch9 seem as grubby as Mundine and Nasser. I'm praying ch10 gets the RL rights, then mr Mundine will have no channel or other sport to use.

Mundine is a grub and all the players associated with him deserve what get.. it may look rosy now but it will come... Nothing good can come from that grub Nasser either... If I was involved in a club I would steer clear of anyone managed by this bloke and his mate mundine... They make me sick.. -- Comment left via The Roar's iPhone app. Download The Roar's iPhone App in the App Store here.
