Carlton unbalanced around the ground

By The Crowd / Roar Guru

With the likes of Judd, Murphy, Waite and Gibbs, Carlton’s midfield is one of, if not the best, midfield in the AFL at this stage. The trouble is that the Blues seem to be lacking talent when it comes to other parts of the ground.

Without Fevola, the Blues have struggled to find a key forward, relying on the likes of Walker and Betts to kick goals, and the backline needs considerable improvement.

Stats show that premiership sides are the sides with balance around the field and mainly, a good, solid defense.

While Carlton are relying on their midfield, crammed with superstars, they are lacking skill in their forward and backline which will continue to be a problem.

If the Blues want any chance of a premiership they need to trade or draft for a good, solid forward and defender instead of trying to cram more guns into their midfield.

If the Blues fix this and obtain some forwards and defenders, with the midfield they currently have, the team will be balanced and I can guarantee they will win premiership after premiership.

But until they upgrade the rest of the ground, they will continue to lose in early finals every year.

Would love to know the angle this article has come from. Given it's timing my money is that it's on a disgruntled Bombers fan.

Reading this article, your knowledge of Carlton, their list is either extremely biased or limited.

hmm lets see, we havent been flogged all year. Our biggest loss was to West Coast by 36 points - which happens to also coincide with the game jamison was injured in the first half, duigan and laidler never played, and henderson had his first Blues crack in defence. That was round 14. The side is completely different now. Jamison is back - and dominated Micheal Hurely last week. Henderson did well last week as well, and hasnt been beaten in weeks - his scalps there including Nick Reiwoldt and Hurley, snf hr esd impressive on Franklin. Duigan and Laidler keeep doing their stuff and yarran is important. Our defence is quite sound now thanks. You go forward, and there has never before been a team with 3 goal kickers in the top 10 until the Blues did it this year. Often overlooked is the fact that walker isnt a small forward. he's 190cm. Setanta and Thornton will add to that mix, as will hampson if he plays. Then theres the midfield. No chance? Like hell there isnt.

i agree with this article because even though betts walker and garlett have scored close to 50 goals each when it comes to the top sides there good big and experienced backline shuts carlton fowards down and we have no chance we have no chance untill we get some big timber down there and someone down back aswell we havent beatin any good sides yet so in order to win a flag we need to beat the big sides we need some big players totally agree with the article

odd article. Carlton have had 3 players kick ~50 goals this season and are ranked 4th in points per game, proving that although they lack a gorilla type KPF, the blues have a potent forward line; in fact a MUCH more potent forward line than in the Fevola days. You also say they lack 'skill' in the backline, but how can skill possibly be measured. Jamison is one of the best full backs in the game, with Henderson a very capable CHB who has done numbers on Hurley and Riewoldt in the last fortnight. Add to that the rock solid Duigan and Jeremy Laidler, and the flair of Chris Yarran and the Carlton backline looks quite strong. So strong in fact that last years runner up best and fairest cant crack a game back there. Famously, the Eagles premiership side of 2006 had key forwards Quentin Lynch and Ashley Hansen disproving the myth that you need a star forward to win a flag.
