Too many whiney Kiwis at the moment

By jaysper / Roar Guru

There are too many whiney Kiwis at the moment. Ok, there I said it. Quite frankly, someone needed to.

First of all, Richie McCaw is not a Saint or King, he is a RUGBY PLAYER. Let me spell it for you: R.U.G.B.Y P.L.A.Y.E.R. got it?

Ok then. So why on Earth does Quade Cooper need to respect him or any of the All Blacks for that matter? If he doesn’t respect what he can do with a ball, it might be to his peril – but that’s about it.

One of the most recent articles I have read on this site suggests that Cooper should apologise to McCaw and New Zealand. What a lot of old tosh!. Quite frankly, Cooper’s behaviour pales in comparison to that of a LOT of rugby players including Richard Loe and Sean Fitzpatrick, each of who were both guilty of far worse.

Should any of us condone this sort of behaviour? No of course not, but lets not be precious about it. As Tana Umaga once said “We’re not playing tiddly winks”.

So please all you whiney Kiwis out there, stop embarrassing those men in New Zealand who DON’T sit down when it’s time to pee!

And to add some balance, will the Aussies please stop whining about how the loss of the world cup is all the fault of Robbie Deans. The Wallabies have a win rate of approximately 20% against the All Blacks, so why Australians think that the cup was theirs to lose is beyond me.

Now before the Kiwis start to flame us damned Aussies for my comments, I am a Kiwi man born, raised and living in New Zealand.
As for you Aussies on this site, I am sure that you are lighting the BBQs as I write.

Finally, go the All Blacks!

Emric see Dylan Cleavers "good" and "bad" of RWC2011 in the NZ Herald and his comment re the crowd, a small minority that booed QC as he was supported from the field after doing his knee. Tasteless mate, that behaviour needs to be slammed, no matter the side of the ditch it comes from.

Allblackfan, You and some of your fellows need to grow up. Quade Cooper has shown plenty of respect to Richie McCaw and the All Blacks. If they or their fans cannot take the same niggle that they dish out, then it simply demeans them. You now finally have the second world cup win that you have been after for so long. Congratulations on a gutsy win (and of course congratulations also to France who pushed the ABs so hard).

few things: 1. kiwis were booing just the wallabies, not the other teams so this is a purely trans-tasman thing. 2. Cooper's treatment is all about RESPECT!! Kiwis may not like a player (ie George ``the motormouth'' Gregan) but if he can hold his head high in the middle of the tight stuff then you can certainly respect him for that. Don't have to like someone to respect them! Quade couldn't even do that (so far) although I think he is still too young (like Kaino, needs time to grow into the role). He can give it but he can't take it at this stage. I believe QC is rapidly devolving into the Anthony Mundine of NZ sport (my opinion). He needs to do something (keeping his distance from Khodar and Mundine would be a start!) 3. Kiwis also, I think, still see QC as one of their one. ``Talking the talk'' MAY be an Aussie thing but that kind of thing goes down like a lead balloon among Kiwis who believe that if you ``talk the talk'', you have to walk the walk''!! How QC can behave the way he does, I suspect, baffles and annoys Kiwis still. 4. McCaw is VERY much beloved by the NZ public. A few years ago, in a Wellington-Canterbury NPC semifinal match, Well prop Nimaia Tialata (an AB team-mate of McCaw) took a cheap shot at McCaw at the bottom of a ruck and was booed by his home crowd. The real problem is when he went to his mother's home that night, she was waiting for him armed with the proverbial rolling pin and the first thing she said when she saw Tialata was: ``I saw what you did to Richie!" He was in the proverbial doghouse for the entire weekend. He closing comment was: ``I learned that night coming home never to take another cheap shot at Richie!!'' (This account came from Tialata) What QC needs to do to regain respect (easily lost, very hard to regain); I suspect stop mouthing off is a good way to start. Quit the cheap shots is a second option and thirdly, man up!! If you start a fight then make sure you finish it! Not sure how? Just ask Brad Thorn!! I'm also hoping that the Kiwis will lay off him now that he picked up a serious injury. People keep threatening the ABs with karma. FYI: NZ has already paid for karma in blood, sweat and tears this year!! KIA KAHA ALL BLACKS!! The entire Pacific Islands are on your side

kiwis recognise it. Coming from such a small country, you can't run away from that reality (although the film industry is certainly making a very decent effort to get NZ recognised for more than rugby!!)

oh, he copped it big time at the time but that was then and this is now. At least powell's big shot was done during the run of play, not when McCaw was pinned and unable to strike back (or even looking)?

Hi Stillmatic. Indiviudual and ceaseless vilification of one player by an entire country isn't part of the game. I'm not a bandwagon jumper, I've been harping on about it for quite a while but I'll accept I've had a bee in my bonnet about it. It really p*ssed me off to see someone representing my country in the rugby showpiece over at our cousins place be treated so poorly. I also have been basing my opinion on first hand accounts from mates who are over there, not the papers. I, like you (from what you say), base little faith in the tabloid journalism we've seen. And no he didn't covet the attention, He was told he was public enemy number 1 so he decided to indicate it didn't affect him, as most would, rather than the alternate. That obviouisly did not go down well with the accusers so let the frothing nonsense begin. And I think this - "we all have a chuckle at his mistakes and then its all merry until his next one"- is maybe how you want to couch it now but the evidence is against you I'm sorry. And let me say once again, I do not hate Kiwi's in the slightest. I'm actually in a hurry now so I can get round to my boofhead Kiwi mates place and hit a few golf balls with him before we watch the game. Don't just write me off as a media sychophant or Kiwi hater. That is just not true. In conclusion (I'm sick of me writing so I'm sure others are too. Go Jerry, I left that one open for you) - my dear wife was just mentioning some recent feedback we've had on Quadey and his ventures outside of the venues. Horwill has confirmed it wasn't too bad and his was the most popular autograph and hopefully for the right reasons. Anyway, my desire is always to be balanced and having heard that, it is only fair to mention it. It doesn't change what happened at the games but at least the horror I felt for what you were doing and what it was going to mean for the future is a little assuaged. Good luck stillmatic. I hope your boys cover themselves in glory. The deserve to regardless of how a lot of their supporters have conducted themselves (had to throw that in, can't be too friendly !!) And as they pass Bill around the country don't rub it too bloody hard. I want it shiny and nice still for us in 2015

You still don't seem to understand my point. It has nothing to do with Quade Cooper but about perceived behaviour of the crowds in NZ.I mean booing another country's national anthem - helloo! And yes this is exactly the sort of thing that helps people make up their minds about where they go on a long haul holiday. Of course it isn't the only factor. As for the audience the combined TV audience for the RWC in '07 was 4.2 billion. That's TV alone; it doesn't take into account the acres of press.

Two reasons. - We hardly play him. - He doesn't have the potential to defeat the AB's

You know, maybe it wouldn't be such a bad thing if the NZRU did boycott the next World Cup. Eight weeks ago I wouldn't even have entertained the thought. I would certainly miss the enjoyment of watching their impressive, well oiled machine steamroll to victory. But on the plus side we would be so much better off without their fans and their paranoia and their petty, insecure need to constantly prove to themselves they are ok.

Where was the outrage at Powell's (Welsh backrower) deliberate high-shot on McCaw last year that actually dropped him? I don't recall him being apologetic. And he's a way bigger twat than Cooper.

Why does everyone think this is about Cooper? The crowd was silent for the Wales kicks at goal on Friday night and whistled, clapped, jeered and stomped to put the Aussies off their shots even after Cooper went off. A couple of my best mates are Kiwi and in SA v Aus games they cheer for SA - I don't have a problem with that, as I've said elsewhere the NZ-Aus relationship is pretty much the same as the Aus-Eng relationship. The big brother/parent is always going to cop stick off the junior partner. Every bit of whining from my fellow Aussies needs to stop - we understand completely why the Kiwis don't like us - get over it. Stop being a jilted lover who is hurt because someone we like doesn't like us. Head down to Bunnings, grab a tablespoon of cement and harden the f*** up.

Can't disagree with any of that :) I don't like Hanson's attitude most of the time. Thorn's comment was weird since he always seems to get emotional at the end of big games. Weren't those comments made well before the world cup? Ritchie not mentioning the Ozzies was more due to the reporters asking the questions. (NZ reporters) Ask the Ozzies about the ABs. Ask the NZers about the ABs :) I guess I'm pushing at is what, in 6 weeks, have this particular team done to turn them into a team that isn't true? I don't know what a true team would be. It's a weird thing where a few people have moved from the skill and performance of a team, to their character and demeanour. For a long time, teams, coaches and media have said.. - Quade is arrogant - Ritchie is a cheat - All Blacks are chokers - SBW is a selfish ingrate - Pocock is a cheat - French are dirty players I don't agree with any of these particular comments. There are things people could pick up on each team. I think the media are always negative. They want sales/ratings/page reads. Then there are the people buy into what the media writes. The ABs I have met have all been polite and generous with their time. I choose to go off how they treat the people they meet. I didn't like Henry's comments on Quade though. Still, I've listened to 15 years of his interviews and the good far outweighs the bad. It maybe that there aren't enough stories going around, that the Media has to increase the hype on things that don't matter. My guess (only a guess) is in the past the players were less gentlemanly and less polite. Now they have to be or 100s of websites and 1000s of commenters jump on their every word and action. It disappoints me.

I'm sure there's been a lot of wringing of hands in Australia and Quade's mum and Stephanie Rice have had to be consoled round the clock and put on suicide watch after the harrowing treatment dished out to Quade. Surely he is one of the most noble men in the history of the world to be subjected to an indignity and not give in and rage at the injustice of it all. I imagine a knighthood (or Aus equivalent) will be coming in the New Year and Pope Ratzi will be initiating the necessary procedures for beatification forthwith.
