Coolen sacked as Adelaide Utd coach

By News / Wire

A-League club Adelaide United sacked Rini Coolen as head coach on Sunday.

The Dutchman will be replaced by former Reds coach John Kosmina for the remainder of the season.

But Coolen’s contract has not been terminated – instead he has been demoted to a development role, the Reds announced.

Coolen’s sacking comes with Adelaide languishing in ninth spot with just two wins for the season and within 48 hours of a 3-0 home loss to last-placed Gold Coast United.

This is exactly my impression an ingenious solution to the problem of being unable to afford to sack him:) ..Flores in last years squad made Rini look like SAF...no Flores this year and the players Coolen brought in proved that the 4yr deal the club signed him on was a mistake. I hope the next time United offer a coach a 4yr deal, it is to a coach that has just won us our first dunny seat and even still has performance based get-out clauses in it! Something had to be done. In week one we had 14k at Hindmarsh, last Friday we had a touch under 8k and the mood after the final whistle was poisonous. That is a terrible look when the club is already being run close to the line. If any sponsors had walked, or more fans did then there'd have been trouble. This move, just listening to the 5AA Soccer Show this afternoon has reinvigorated the AUFC support base. Many believe that Kossie will instill some structure, pride and passion into our performances. As a football fan I don't like it but I can handle it if we play hard and just get beaten by a better team on the night. What drives people away is negative tactics and seemingly giving up soft goals then dropping the bundle. RC had obviously lopst the dressing room and the players had no clue about his game plan and lacked confidence and direction. I'm now excited to go back to Hindmarsh on Dec30th for the home game against WPX, whereas after the GCU game I was not looking forward to the next home game at all. Many(including me) will look to see immediate improvement in player demeanor on Thursday night at the SFS as SFC host United! Even if we lose, but signs of improvement are shown, I think the buzz will return. Its only rd11, there is plenty of time to play into some form and perhaps go on a BR-esque unbeaten streak all the way to the Championship. Hope has sprung again in rAdelaide.

Why hasn't Pierre Lttbarski ever come back to coach in the A-league , he was a high quality coach with a reasonably good coaching record. Why has Pierre Littbarski, never returned to the A-league to coach.

So this gives me the impression that Rini has been put on "gardening" duties and if he is not happy he'll have to terminate the contract rather than the other way round? Maybe gets Adelaide out of a big payout?

I initially thought this was some kind of a crap joke i mean nothing happens on sunday. However its a great result rini has gone as the senior coach and now will coach the youth setup and kossie back as the gaffer if nothing he will bring back passion pride in the badge and aggression all of which has being sadly lacking under rini recently.
