I was looking forward to watching Tim Tebow and the Denver Broncos in what shaped up as one of the best NFL playoff games of the weekend.
Denver Broncos’ quarterback Tebow has been a sensation in the NFL after a stellar rookie season last year, and all the professional talk this week was about Tebow and how the Broncos’ offensive drive would overcome the Patriots rock like defence.
After topping the NFL jersey sales in his very first year, Tebow ranks as the number two in this year’s NFL jersey sales ladder with New England Patriots’ quarterback Tom Brady at five.
After the comprehensive NFL playoffs victory by Brady’s New England Patriots over the Broncos, that statistic will soon change, especially if the Patriots make it all the way to the final.
Brady is now the owner of the NFL’s post-season record for the most number of first half touchdown passes (five). He completed six in total in the Patriots crushing 45 to 10 defeat of the Broncos, ending their aspirations to make it to this year’s Superbowl final.
It was reported that before the game when Tebow was introduced to Brady, he referred to him as “Mister Brady”. That not just attributable to Tebow’s well mannered upbringing and humble nature, but also to his strong Christian beliefs.
But Tebow failed to live up to the hype and expectations and was torn apart by the Patriots at Gillette Stadium.
The quarterback in NFL is a pivotal role, and if you have a bad day, so does the whole team.
People are asking whether Tebow has the right stuff to handle the NFL big pressure games. Does that meek and mild personality and calling your adversary “Mister” put you in the right frame of mind for such a huge game?
But I wouldn’t put all the blame on Tebow’s broad shoulders. The Broncos defense, quite frankly, was not that good. Brady had a central passing lane as wide as the Harbour Bridge to fire in those touch down spirals to a virtually unmarked offense.
The Patriots defense was almost impregnable and made Tebow’s job even more difficult and they put him on the ground plenty of times.
Patriots followers taunted Tebow, chanting his name and mockingly bowing before him. One held a sign that read, “Tebow, your prayers will not be answered here!” Another read, “My God is Tom Brady.”
Sport can be a cruel game and devastating defeats go back a long way, even to the coliseum days when they threw the Christians in with the lions – that was their sport and winning was tougher than ever.

I think that was Joe's last start for the 49ers. He got injured and didn't play for two years. Two years later he finally ran on the field again for the second half in one of the last games of the season. It's like he never left, throwing two touchdowns. There's a video of it on YouTube, you should see it. The crowd is going nuts chanting "Joe, Joe, Joe" and the tv coverages keeps cutting to Young on the sideline who must be thinking "when will this guy leave??"

Its not all Tebow's fault and I think you'll find Gronkowski didn't have a hand on him when he scored those touchdowns, so you would have to blame the defence as well. Brady also threw a couple of intercepts and had a bad patch in the game too, but it was the defence that paved the way to keep the Broncos to one TD v the Pats 6.

No Chance against that sort of opposition . . . I think Tebow has learnt his lesson. Funnily enoug Tebow also has a promotional contract for selling mens underwear and Brady has a conract flogging a Nike competitior in footware. God obviously doesn't approve of Nike.

The Pats completely and utterly cracked the Denver option offence. Once other teams take note, I can't see it lasting too much longer as a successful tactic. Hence I agree with your assertion that Tebow needs to learn how to throw.

Not sure how you can blame Tebow on the Bronco's defense allowing Brady to throw six touchdown passes. All in all the Tebow experiment has been a successful one this season for Denver, specifically from the early season position of 1-4 they were in when Orton was their starting QB, I don't think anyone envisaged them making the playoffs let alone winning a wildcard game. The main problem that Tebow has and will always have is his wildly inconsistent throwing action, as an auxilliary running back/run oriented QB, he is deadly as has been shown when Denver have utilised the option offense, I'm not sure however if he'll last long in the NFL without developing the ability to throw consistently, specifically as the top QB's this season have thrown for massive gains.

It was a hard day at the office for Tebow and the patriots defense was awesome. Next season will be his pivotal year if he is going to go on and be a great player or just another Broncos quarterback. Brady was great and often made the plays without a huddle and his offensive runners still knew exactly what to do. Great work from Bill O'Brien, their offensive coach. The New Orleans v San Francisco playoff was a cracker too. I think the Patriots and Brady can go all the way and will be watching their next game against the Ravens with interest. Baltimore were one of the best teams all season.

I can't believe you wrote that about the AFL. Sorry, couldn't help myself! Great round up ICF, there was always the feeling that Tebow was going to run out of luck eventually. He still had a great season and was the good news story for the game. Side fact.. The NFC championship match up is the same as in 1991, which I'm pretty sure was Joe Montana's last game for the 49ers.
