Van't Schip to coach Mexican giants Chivas

By The Roar / Editor

Former Melbourne Heart coach John van’t Schip has been announced as the new man in charge of Mexican giants Chivas de Guadalajara.

The 48-year-0ld, who only finished his time in the A-League earlier this month, was picked for the role by Dutch legend Johan Cruyff who has been an advisor for Chivas since February.

A press release from the Mexican club said, “The new coach had a brilliant career as a professional player when he won nine titles with Ajax, including the 1988 Euros with Holland alongside Ronald Koeman, Ruud Gullit, Frank Rijkaard and Marco van Basten.”

“van’t Schip also has a wide experience as a coach, a career which began with the Ajax youth teams until he become assistant to van Basten with Holland from 2004-2008. He also coached FC Twente and Melbourne Heart from Australia.”

While van’t Schip only managed mixed results while at the Heart, he was widely respected within the club for his expertise and influence in guiding the new club through their inception.

One of the most popular teams in Mexico, Chivas have had an awful start to the season having won just four times in 15 games.

It's kinda sad how so many of you don't even know your darn continents. Mexico is part of NORTH AMERICA. Central America itself is also part of North America. Land sound of Panama is SOUTH AMERICA. Mexico is therfore way to north to be part of South America. Also. The debate of whether Mexico is part of Central America is also wrong here. Many debate whether Mexico is or not. But it's known that if Mexico is in any way part of Central America it is only the Yucatan peninsula not all of Mexico, and even that is debated. But I say Mexico is only North America because Central Americans (Guatemalans, Hondurians, Salvadorians) generally HATE Mexicans.. They can't stand them and they show it in Football. So if the already known Central Americans do not accept Mexicans as one of them then No Mexico is indeed not Central America in opinion and in Fact. Cheers everyone (: Hope we all learned from eachother.

Home sickness can be tough. Mexico to closer to the Netherlands than Australia. Reminded me of Robbie Fowler's "I want to go home" and subsequent move to Thailand. But in all seriousness I enjoyed watching MHT player under JVS and hope they continue with this style moving forward.

Chivas is a big club in Mexico and the Mexican league is better then the J-league. MLS clubs have struggled to beat them and their National teams is doing good at every level. It will be a lot of pressure to Win in Mexico. The Mexican way of playing, keep the ball, he will also need to get used to. Mexico is in central America and along with the Carribean, North America and the rest of Central America play in the Concacaf champions league. However some clubs do play in the south american champions. The three top fastest and future top leagues outside of Europe is. the Brasil serie A, MLS and the FMF of mexico.

No actually. North America is anything North of the Panama canal, that is North America. Everything south of the Panama canal is South America. Central America is a descriptive region between Mexico(not including) and South America comprising of many nations such as Costa Rica, Honduras etc Latin America are all the Spanish and Portuguese speaking nations south of USA.

But they speak Spanish! Latin America is the correct term but ya Mexico is on the North American Continent. Anything South of USA = South America to most people

Or it had nothing to do with family and he wanted to move on to a real club, one that doesn't use rubbish bins in training.

So much for leaving Melbourne Heart because he missed his family in Holland and the lifestyle there. So he's heading off to live in South America instead. Maybe he will now no longer be remembered fondly by Melbourne Heart.

He was probably just looking for a more family friendly environment than Melbourne.

Can't blame him, there's a lot of money in Mexican football, in fact, it's probably knocking on the door of the 6th or 7th largest European league.
