West Coast Eagles vs Carlton: AFL live scores, blog

By The Roar / Editor

Carlton find themselves out of the top eight and facing a West Coast Eagles outfit coming off a bye at home. It’s must win, but it won’t come easy at Patersons Stadium. Join us for live AFL scores as the Blues take on West Coast from 7:40pm AEST (5:40pm local).

It’s must-win for Carlton. They’ve been woeful since their strong start to the 2012 season, which saw them take early favouritism after beating Richmond and Collingwood in the opening three rounds. Since then, they’ve been up and down, losing most notably to Port Adelaide, but they did manage to get within two majors of Geelong last weekend.

Coach Brent Ratten will be relieved to finally get back key midfielders Andrew Carazzo and Heath Scotland, who will add experience and mettle to the ailing midfield. The Blues went downhill when Carazzo damaged his shoulder, and his return could spark them again. The Blues have the bye next week and then take on Hawthorn and Collingwood again, so they’ll be desperate to hit form.

However, they have West Coast to contend with, who are coming off a shock loss to the Lions, and have had a week off with the bye to stew on the result.

Was the the loss to Brisbane an aberration? A mid-season wake-up call to a side who have dominated most teams? They’ve surrendered top spot on the ladder and the spotlight of favouritism, which may well be a blessing.

The Eagles welcome back stars Sam Butler, and Luke Schuey, but have lost tough nut Beau Waters to injury. Coming off an 11-day break, they will be raring to go.

This is a match that will have September repercussions, and Carlton should be coming out in full force with the win badly needed. But will it be enough against a West Coast team that derailed them in the finals of 2011?

Join us from 7:40pm AEST to find out.

Shame on all you supporters for the booing of Chris Judd. I have been a WC Supporter from day 1 too but get over the fact that like so many other players, he changed teams for his reasons ---- you'd be booing almost every player if that was the reason. Shame, shame on you all......................

Completely used their fuel tickets in the huge burst. Annoyed the Eagles yet again turned off and allowed junk time goals though. Probably a good part of what killed us against Brisbane given how unexpectedly long that quarter went for. Have not displayed anything like enough ruthlessness lately. Of course, straighter kicking would have helped, absolutely shocked at Hill's output this week. We really are bad in wet weather with our kicking though.

I also hate Carlton but completely disagree that the free kicks weren't deserved.

Its funny how all the excuses come out when Vic sides loose, the free kick count was 23-21 so just get over it. If WC had kicked straighter we still would of won by 60, so your excuses pathetic, You VIC's still wont except that its a national competion and crack the wobblies when interstate sides sit on top of the ladder (even when they have 5 of their best 22 players out) , Stop making excuses and just except the better side won on the night, we certailnly dont complain when we have to travel every second week, its part of been in a national competetion.

That's how it stays: WC Eagles triumph over the Blues 10.19.79 to 10.9.69. I've had a look at the draw, West Coast, if they aim up (rather than down as they did against the Lions) will easily be top four and possibly top one or two on the ladder. They have a tester against Collingwood next, but will have 9 days preparation. The Blues get the bye, a chance to regroup, and finish the second half of the season as best they can. Two big games coming up.

I don't go for either Carlton nor West Coast and I have to say that I'm not too fond of Carlton but I do have to admit that the Thursday night game was utter crap. It was basically 4 quarters of WC being handed free kicks mist of which they didn't deserve. The umpires mght as well have been playing for West Coast, I hate Carlton but this game was foolish, if anything it proved how bad west coast are or how well Carlton can get out of trouble. I think this was the game that added another nail to the coffin of football next they'll be giving out frees for hurt feelings... Shoulda kept it Victorian...

I think the so called BT and Bwooce, i know he is not there, should perhaps find another job, let Cam Ling get up there. The others dont seem to like non vic sides, unfortunately it is supposed to be a National comp. Things like not paying attention to see what the 50 is for.

They way west coast play is a discrace to the Australian way, embarrasing and this diving is a culture there. I would prefer collingwooed to win the flag then them. Umpires in perth are dreadful too
