Brisbane Broncos vs South Sydney Rabbitohs: NRL live scores, blog

By Matt Bungard / Roar Guru

It’s a battle of top four opponents as the Brisbane Broncos host the South Sydney Rabbitohs live from Suncorp Stadium. Join us for live NRL scores and updates from 7:30pm AEST.

Brisbane have had the wood on the Bunnies for most of their existence, winning 20 of the 26 encounters between the two, including a 20-12 win in Perth earlier this season.

In saying that, the last time the two sides met on a Friday night at Suncorp, the Rabbitohs were absolutely rampant, winning 44-10 way back in the 2009 season.

The Rabbitohs have been hot in recent weeks, winning seven of their last nine games – Unfortunately for the visitors six of those were at ANZ Stadium and the other also took place in Sydney (a round 11 victory over the Dragons at Kogarah). In fact, in two of their three wins this year away from their Homebush bunker, golden point was required to get them over the line.

Look for Souths to charge out of the blocks, as they lead the league in points scored in the opening quarters of matches.

With State of Origin selection just around the corner, expect massive games from both Dave Taylor and Greg Inglis – it’s very interesting that the same ground that will be cheering their lungs out for the Rabbitohs pair in two weeks’ time will be booing their every touch tonight.

The Broncos will no doubt be fired up for Petero Civoniceva’s 300th first grade appearance, making his debut for Brisbane all the way back in 1998. Funnily enough, his 200th match was also against the boys from Redfern, an 8-4 arm wrestle back in 2007.

Let’s hope tonight’s game is more enthralling. Join us just before kick-off for any last minute team changes and news.

Brisbane's forwards were just too good, making 50m or more in basically every set. The referees certainly didn't help though, with two of the Broncos' tries coming with a massive asterix over them, the 'strip' which led to the Glenn try and the Copley try that was a good metre forward and not called. Despite this, Brisbane had the field position throughout and kept control of the game. Souths looked very flat in attack, but that will happen when you spend 70% of the game defending. But that's all for tonight - thanks for following along. Feel free to tweet us @TheRoarSports or myself @TheMattBungard.

Wallace puts Te'o through a yawning gap, Souths were just too tired after making a million tackles.

73rd min, BRI 22-12 Wallace grubbers, it's well picked up by Sutton but there's 90 metres between the red and greens and the try line, and they need to score twice...

72nd min, BRI 22-12 They run it on the last, and this time the forward pass is called...poor option there, Souths start the set on halfway.

71st min, BRI 22-12 Reynolds kicks for the corner and they tie up Hoffman inside his own 10m. Souths need a decent defensive set here..
